heres some facts:
Bottom line- buying an american car contributes to more north american jobs then buying a Toyota. No matter what fact or jiberish you post.
I looooooove gm's response to Toyota bragging they have 10 assembly plants in the US.. Big whoop.. GM has 10.. IN OHIO 54 total. And not to mention GM's parts content.. my silverado is 86% north american made parts.. SWEET! the more the better.
oh come on.. assembled in america and built in america are two totally different things.
GM billboard a year or two back. A few months ago I am pretty sure the are now at 58 plants (including the recent closures)
Did you know General Motors received the Gold and Silver Plant quality awards beating Toyota, Honda, and Nissan amongst others?
Domestics are now getting better qualitiy ratings.
The domestics employ many many many times more people then the foreign cars do, its a fact I could quote from any reliable source.
Domestics that have a high percentage of made in north america parts are great, because them parts got made in the USA by factories the employ other US factories.
These are facts-
Domestic makers employ more americans then foreign companys.
You can combine all the people foreign car makers employ in the US.. and it doesn't add up to what GM alone employs.
I have owned many GM's and Fords with well over 200,000 miles.
Domestic quality is now surpassing foreigns in many aspects.
GM has 100,000 warranty.
GM has more models then anyone getting over 30 mpg.
Overall, domestic car parts are cheaper then foreign car parts.
GM is back into the electric car idea trying new things (chevy volt)
There are more fuel saving and horsepower increaseing things going into these domestics than I can shake a stick at.
Domestic parts are easy and cheaper to buy on the whole (ask any guy at a parts store)
This country was built and made what it is by the old timers that supported america.
Look in a parking lot in Japan.. No GM's. There are different import laws and taxes in other countrys in comparassion to ours, you should look at chinas. I think we should adopt the same policys.
Toyota brags in ads about its growing list of U.S. plants, yet it imported 37% more cars from Japan last year to meet increased demand. (usatoday.com)
Buying a foreign vehicle also sends all the profits overseas.
Ford's explorer is 95% north american parts. Fords Crown Vic's are 95% also. The ford explorer has the most north american parts content vehicle title. My silverado is 86% north american parts content. Thats where the jobs are created here in this country, NOt by what robots assemble them where.
Sure.. Toyota and honda might have a couple vehicles that are exceptions, but not all of them. And the domestic's smear them into the ground when comparing who buys the most made in north america parts.. or who puts more money into america.
"The data is clear: Domestic auto plants create more jobs in this country than overseas producers who locate here," (usatoday)
According to the Automotive Trade Policy Council (Beat that for a reliable source).. Among Japanese brands, Honda had the most domestic content at 59%.
A billboard posted along Interstate 275 shows an American flag and outlines of Japan and South Korea. The message: "Whose country are you supporting?"
They build vehicles here to avoid the huge import tax on importing an entire vehicle. I know ALOT more about this, that I cannot discuss on the internet.
All told, each of the Detroit automakers supports 2˝ times more U.S. jobs than Toyota (usatoday research group)
You know what the Top two selling vehicles in the USA are? 1. F150 2. Silverado (forbes and other sources)
And screw that stupid consumer reports statement. Use consumer reports to buy a friken sewing machine, NOT a car/truck. Consumer reports is crap for alot of reasons.. one example- 91 chevy cavalier.. they said junk vehicle do not buy. We had 3 in the family.. all with 200-260,000 miles.. And if you want to talk about consumer reports still.. I just looked at the 2006 consumer reports online. TWO fords beat the accord and the camry in reliability. Also I see the cobalt got the least reliable? HAHA.. They have the infamous 2.2L. One of the best gm motors out there. One of my best friends is the manager at a GM dealership and I asked her "how are the new cobalts? just as good as the ol' cavaliers?".. she said "we never see them in here for anything other than an oil change". My sister has had one since they came out and its had NO problems. Screw consumer reports for rating vehicles.
When you look at north american parts content.. all the american brands are at the top of the list. Yes, there are a couple foreigns up there (camry 80% but still 35th on the list, and thats the highest parts content Toyota made, profits go to japan, congrats Toyota, you have one vehicle on there hah) And yes there are a few american company owned cars that have crap for US parts content (HHR for example). But the US makers are on top of the list that have BY FAR the highest and most models with american parts content.
In order to be called "made in USA" it has to have a parts content of over 75%.. NOT assembled in USA out of mostly imported parts
Did you know that for the past 2 years Toyota quality has gone down? I don't say this because so and so told me so. You need to look at the numbers. Right now according to JD power (one of the big names).. has the Toyota camry in 4th place in reliability. 3 domestic vehicles are in front of it.
You know what else pisses me off. GM recalls trailblazers because of a bad light harness and it hits all the news stations because its 800,000 vehicles or something. Minor issue. Then people start in with "see they are junk!". Did you know Toyota just recalled a bunch of vehicles for air bags deploying for no reason? That was alot of vehicles too, but the f'kin media didn't have that all over the news the bastards. You didn't see in the news that all them prius's were recalled because they were dieing in the middle of the road. Or all the 533,000 tundras that were recalled that couldn't steer.
Roll over ratings - www.nhtsa.dodt.gov rates the imports the worst. They are the people that test them.
And to whoever it was that said chevy's are not the longest lasting trucks on the road.. GM doesn't just say that, they can't, they would be in deep $hit. They have to prove it. Here is the chevy site
http://www.chevrolet.com/trucks/ . See the fine print at the bottom? There is the proof
"Dependability based on longevity: 1981–July 2006 full-line light-duty truck company registrations."
They even have a 200,000+ miles club. www.chevy.com/200k Look at all the people on the site with over 400,000 miles lol.. pretty cool! I wish they had a club for the cavaliers with over 200,000 miles. I would have 4 I could add to their list for that.
If it has wheels, its going to break. American or foreign.
I am sick of the japenese stealing designs and ideas from us and making money off from it. Its crap.
I know ALOt about all of this. I don't have the opinions or facts that I have because I watch TV or I saw it on the internet or a buddy told me. I am there in midst of it worring about a pink slip and making ends meet.
American companys make a hell of a vehicle and they keep getting better. The contribute to more american jobs than any foreign manufacturer. GM ALONE (not including ford) employees 111,000 workers ALONE.. not to mention their suppliers and the people the suppliers employ, and the people they employ.
You say the honda's and toyotas are the longest lasting on the road.. then why can't they claim it?? Why can chevy claim it right on their website and have it at the bottom that the facts came from state registrations!???
I realize there is no changing people like yours mind. Maybe you some day will lose your job because amercans decided to buy a foreign product over yours no matter how good it is.. then maybe you will understand.
So.. go buy a lexus and get a big "L" tatoo'd on your arm. Back up your opinion with facts from a reputable source and be ready for me to counteract it.. he said she said I think doesn't cut to me.
And just remember.. They don't write songs about Toyotas (or volvos)
Yes, threads like this get me going.
+1,000,000,000 to you guys supporting north american and realizing that we make a hell of a vehicle.
