Snarky
just curoius to know what or all the differences are from a 94 and 95 xlt. can all parts be swapped between them both engine wise or are they 2 totally different setups?. and what would the hp and speed difference be?. and in anyones opinion which is the better one to have (reliable wise)?.
WarpSpeedXCR
Don't know how accurate this info is, but I'd say it's pretty damn close.

600 triple engine info
RatRod
the 600 runs 95-100hp and the 580 runs 85-90. they just made a 580 so that when everyone buys them the next year they come out with the same sled but a 600 with more hp so everyone sells the 580s and gets 600. just a way of making money
Gotmods
but thats were they went wrong^^^, after 95 anyway the cranks kept on burning out of them.

"the 600 runs 95-100hp and the 580 runs 85-90" But my 93 XLT with the 580 Blows away my 95 XLT with the 600

The HP is fairly close between the 580 and the 600, even a special with 38mm carbs, 10hp max. If you are talking top speed between a 93' and a 95' special, the 95' probably loses some top end due to the xtra 12 suspension under it.

579cc low port motor vs 597cc high port motor. Both ran 34mm carbs depending on model. The 597 also used 38mm carbs. I had both motors in my xlt and can say the 597 had more b*lls but the 579 was better on gas. The 579 had near 8k miles and the 597 5k with no issues beyond bad advice from so called experts. Live and learn LOL

Actually some incorrect answers here....i had both year sleds and will try to give my best . The 94 580 xlt had a wimpier set of crank bearings and case opposed to the 95 600 lower end....although seemed the crank itself in the 580 was pressed together with better quality control than the 95 600 motor...smaller bore pistons in the 580 opposed to the 600...same stroke. The xlt 580 used o ring heads while the 95 600 used a gasket. Both motors used the same ignition and 34 mm carbs with the exception of the 600 xcr using 38 mm carbs and more aggressive porting, but thats the xcr...different sled. The xlt 580 dynoed at 87 hp.... the 95xlt 600 at 92 hp. Other than that pretty much the same including clutching and exhaust.

Still some incorrect answers.....

The Xcr 600 was 92hp with the 38mm carbs. the '95 xlt was 90hp and the '93 xlt was 88hp, both with 34mm carbs.

Actually we dynoed those sleds on a buddies land and sea portable dyno... figures i gave were accurate for the 94 and 95 motors....the xcr 600 made 95 hp....100 hp when in blueprinted form. That sled ran a different exhaust system and clutching that wouldn't interchange with the xlt.

And you forgot about the 1992 XLT. We had one here which was the second one off the assembly line and had a dash plaq which said it was owned by the vice president of Polaris.

Both the 94 & 95 XLT SP's use #3085005 head gaskets even though the 94 SP X-Tra is a 580 cc. The 92 & 93 580's used O-Rings.

I beg to differ...i squeaked a piston in my 94 xlt 580 down a long river in quebec running too long in the mid-range at sea level or lower. When we took it apart the motor used a one piece head with seperate o rings plus the water cover. Definetly remember my 95 600 motor using 3 seperate heads...one graphite type head gasket and the water cover which was o ringed to tie it all together. Both of these sleds were snowchecked models.

It is true that some of the 94's used O-Rings, the SP X-tra used a gasket as I mentioned, I should have been more specific.

I thought the 95 xcr 600's had 95 h.p???
ACE
either way, were they not a sweet sled and huge seller or what. i would have to say that the xlt was like the yammy phazer when it came out. everyone had to have one and they are still running.

It did...95-96 hp. on a buddies dyno. 100 hp. if you gasket matched the transfers in the case and made all the cylinder transfer ports the identical height... same with intake and exhaust ports exactly to polaris specs.

My 94 was an xlt sp....only a 580...o ring heads...no extra in 94. My 95 was the sp extra which was a 600 motor...thats the 1st year they started using the head gasket. You could buy the thinner xcr optional head gasket for even more compression...it didn't tollorate pump gas very well.
