The wife and I are thinking about a life style change and were looking at Juneau. Can someone tell me a little about the riding in this area of the state. What kind of riding? Trail systems? Can you pop over the line to Canada? Anyone live in Juneau? Is so, how do you like it?

Nobody has replied so heres what I know. First Juneau is only accessible by sea and air. No roads go there, just planes and the ferry. That for me would be a major factor. I have never ridden there, but I have seen some pictures that others have posted, on this site and on Snowest, and they have been Awesome. I believe that its mostly mountain riding there, probably no trails. And I dont think you can ride into Canada (too many mountains, water), but i could be wrong. Hope this helps and maybe someone else can chime in who has ridden there!

We spent a fair amount of time looking at Juneau and from what we have seen we love it. Of course, we are going to take a long trip up to visit and check the place out. We are at a point in our lives were we can actually pickup and go and Juneau looks like the place to go for us! I read a little on the Juneau snowmobile clubs site and it looks like they go up around Skagway. They did mention a poker run that goes over into BC so I am thinking it should be ok to cross the boarder. Maybe only in certain places but still possible. The climate looks pretty good in comparison to some of the places in the bush we were looking at. I like the awesome part of your post. I posted over on the BC forum and got an awesome over there as well grin.png Anyone else have any information on Juneau?

Yep...Thats what i remember too.

You may like Homer more varmit. Same type of climate, about the same size, killer fishing, ROADS, and a 4.5 hour drive from Anchorage.

I just heard from a friend that lives in Juneau that the "greenies" are tying up more riding oppotunities thee. Since it is the capital city and loaded with politicians it is also full of attorneys and "granola crunchers". The employment market in Juneau mostly government jobs.

I was in touch with the Juneau snowmobile club and they told me they are working on opening up a trail system that will lead to the BC boarder. It's on there site and the president of the club explained it a little to me. I would hope that they don't close the trails or shut riding down, that would be a bummer and a major one at that!
