Curious to know whats involved in welding a crank. Do you just make sure that it is indexed properly then tig weld it on the end of the pins for about three eights of an inch? any preheating to do or anything? thanks , oh the crank would be a zrt600.

just be sure that your crank is well indexed...you have to put out to do a good job...

however except for big bore...a dont see the need to weld your crank...

Tig torch, no pre-heating, if the bearings are off, weld all the way around, otherwise 180 Degrees +/- around the pins both sides of the cheeks. If you blow belts at hi-speed enough times, the welds can and do still break.

thats interesting are the cranks welded as they are being put together or are they done after the crank has been pressed completely together, Im surprised they dont move as they are being welded, thanks for your replies...

No metal is added, sort of like melting 2 pieces of plastic together.
Welding can be done either way.
