so i'm currently in vermont chilling at one of my buddies homes and i drove up here having to leave work early yesterday so i could practice on friday. so i loaded up my ranger and packed it to the roof with all my tools in my "waterloo" tool box and filled up my 5 gallon jug full of 93 octane and headed out to practice.. so 85%i get to the track and everything is good for practice my sled is running about 85%.. i could do a minor clutch change to make it 100% but we'll see. so today was races... i entered in the trail class and the sport 600 class.. well i had my 3 trail races.. ended up taking 2nd because of the clutching but when i'm about to stage for the next class one of the officials comes up to me and my buddies and is like what year is this chassis? i tell him 2005 and he goes this has a 600 in it right? i was like yes it does.. he goes if you stage for this race you WILL be disqualified.. i ask why and he tells me that the class i'm in you can only run sleds that came stock with 600 motors and that someone else that is racing looked me up online and saw that i have a 05 with a 600 in it.. the only thing i know is that it is some big name riders crew that did it... i'm so fucking pissed.. i dont have any other mods other than it has the 600 engine in it from another sled.. but i mean i ama 20 yr old kid working my fucking ass off to make it to these races.. i spent all last year working on the sled that i couldnt afford and trying my best just to get on the track... i spent a weekend in my fucking ranger freezing cold at night just so i can race both days.. and these big companys that can go out and buy these sleds with their big rv's and sleep comfortable have to go online and check out online and go "tell" on me.. i'm not tryin to cheat.. i honestly didnt even know that i had to have a sled that came stock with a 600.. so if your reading this whoever did this to me.. firstly fuck your secondly. honestly i am pissed but.....scared much? am i wrong for being pissed about this?..... oh ya.. heres what it looks like for me to drive to each race.. not a fucking rv.. my iqs skis are half hanging off...

Sorry man, but you entered a stock class. Stock means OEM for the year of construction. There are some changes that you're permitted to make but the engine isn't one of them. The 05 came with a 440 and that's what you need to run. In fact to be technical the engine and components need to be of the same vintage as the chassis. So, you wouldn't even be able to run a newer 440 engine, you need an 05. Same with the track. I don't think the rule applies or is enforced in trail class just as long as the engine is no bigger than 600cc. I think the class is called trail open just for that reason. How would you feel if you were the one on the 440 and some guy lined up next to you with a new 08 600 race engine in his 05 chassis?

It would be nice if we were able to upgrade our sleds each year. We would all save some money, but it's not in the rules. RMR publishes it's rule book as does the WPSA. It's the racers responsibility to know the rules and follow them. If you are going to race next year download the book and read it through. You'll see what I'm saying. FYI, don't plan for next year by reading this years rule book. They publish the new rules just before the season. That way, you don't get stuck with a bunch of parts you can't use if something changes.

Anyway, sorry your weekend didn't go as planned, but welcome to SNO-X. It's usually a lot of fun. It's difficult to race and trail ride the same sled, especially in the sport class. If you plan to race more next year concider getting yourself a dedicated race sled. Probably some decent deals available on 07 440's by now.

PM me if you need some help.

next year i'll have a designated trail sled.. i'm throwing ideas in the air about plans for next year..not sure what i'm going to do.. but i'm not good enough for semi pro and id rather not racec than own a ski doo so i'll have to do something for next year to run sport class

I am just getting into the racing end of this. My son is 15. He can't race a 600 and nobody makes a 440 anymore. So we will be buying an 07 440 and hope they don't change the rules before next season. Seems nuts to have a 500cc max for his class and nobody makes one. I wanted to buy an 09 rioller and drop in an 07 440 but was told i can't.

Racing rules suck but they are there for a reason. Some don't make sense. In the hill-x stuff here in MI they had any IQR in the modified class even if it was an RR. They don't make doo or cat do that. I was also in the open class with a 900. That sucked cause my brother and his 1200wc kicked my ass. I think that is great you slept in your ranger though. Cheers to you for being ambitous. better luck next year.

ya.. freezing my balls off.. all for the love of riding my sled over jumps with other ppl trying to "take my head off" as timespentsearching put it...

You must be a pretty good rider for someone to go out of their way to research you.

Keep your head up!...and get a rule book.

I know how you feel man, on my ProX I had to switch from a mod hood to a stock one because it wasn't like that from the factory. The only other person in the stock class was my friend who didn't care. It's a good thing they didn't take a look under the hood though because not much is stock from the factory anymore...

Anyone who would bring a ProX to a SnoX race is allowed to cheat. It's in the rule book......page 96. Look it up.

Sorry to hear of your troubles Fab...I'm sure you are disappointed.

i'm not really that great of a rider.. this is my first year racing..i've only been to three races because of time restraints and whatnot with my sled but this past weekend i ended up taking 2nd place saturday and sunday in the trail class.. i would have had first but on saturday the winner was with a race team that had been racing for years and same with sunday.. it was a guy that told me he has been running the trail class for 5 years.. but i held my own..

Dammit! I just wrote out 3 paragraphs of reason's why the snowmobile racing assc's kick them selves in the ass, and then wonder why there sport isn't growing! Then I accidently closed my window.

Either way I will try to shorten this up. I have tried to start racing snowmobiles a couple times, and by the time you are ready you are so discouraged with all the bullshit. I have raced motocross in many different districts and assc's through out the USA since I was 5. If the snowmobile racing assc's where halfway smart they would merge up and creat a centralized group (ie AMA).

Just like with KART and the IRL it was a battle of ego's that almost killed indy car racing. Had nothing to do with the racing, it was all who's dick is bigger than who's. Snowmobile racing changes the f'ing rules so much unless you are a small fortune 500 business you can't keep up. You very rarely see someone racing a sled that is over 5 years old. Again very discouraging to a person looking to get started. You go to a local MX race and you will see people running 1998 and earlier bikes. Maybe not your top A class but. (when I run a race I still just run a 2002 YZ250F, love that bike, had newer sold em

Faboon I really feel for ya. What kind of a hard asshole tries to protest someone at there first race. It's not like you where going to take the million dollar purse home and the promoters wife.

I read on here about "Will sno-X survive". No it won't if the asshole don't get it together and try to do something that will welcome a new breed of racers. These pricks with there semi's and huge companies that just frown on new racers. Fine. We'll see what happens. In a sport that is having enough problems (due to weather and manufactures not selling sleds) they should do everything they can to welcome more racers.

The pricks that protest these tiny issue's will think it's really cool when they go to a race and there the only one there. Yeah! Your the champion of a dead sport.
Sorry to be harsh but this is a classis example of whats wrong with sno-x and snowmobile racing period.

Now on the other hand before I get yelled at. That is why this web site and this forum specifically is so GREAT. It is very rare to see people sharing tips and such when it comes to snowmobile racing, this forum is the exact oppisite. I think if you had more people like the people on this site running these races it would be a whole lot funner for everyone.

These races don't need to be like the old english monarchy (class system, king, queen etc).

Good posts tblade, you nailed it. This is what will kill my favorite sport.

We are in a pretty lucky situation up here in alaska. Not everyone is into SnoX for the money. If they were, no one would be there. Halvor can show up with his 02 ProX with a stock '01 600ves motor, 440 exhaust, 1.625"track, '04 rear skid, Mod cowling and everyone welcomes him to the starting line.....in the Sport Stock class. Thats breaking 4 rules right there. Even after Hal started winning with that old iron the other parents and kids in the class didn't say a word. Heck, how could thay, a Stock '06 SnoPro 440 won the Sport Open Class, Collin Clayton #246 in some of Hals pics. These two kids with Old Iron were putting the smackdown on the brand new '08's that showed up.

This "got to be new iron" BS is going to kill SnoX. I understand rules and all but the Sanctioning Bodies need to make provisions of sorts for sleds 3 years older than the latest equipment. If they don't.....SnoX is done.

thx guys for the support on this issue.. i may try to play it fair and bust ass to buy an 08 but i'll probably keep it to myself any changes or upgrades i do.. i'm really disenchanted with the fact that hardcoresledder is being watched by teams as a way to eliminate the competition...

You must mean the chinese kid on southside right? Its pretty funny how he races trail when his profile on their site has him as a sport/semi-pro.

It's the stuff like this that clearly shows RMR is about the money and nothing else. I mean come on, theres a rule against having ethanol in your fuel; last time I checked it was a disadvantage to have ethanol...oh and I almost forgot it just so happens that they sell sunoco race fuels right out of the RMR trailer!
fabioonachopper
actually its funny you say that about the southside kid.. he was in the trail class at barton and i beat him every time! if he is semi-pro than i might as well go into pro.. ha..
