which bike?
I thought the Supercorsa's were some of the stickiest rubber out there - but maybe not as good for road use..?

06 triumph daytona 675. maybe ultimate hot dry cornering on a track, but on the street, no way. the supercorsas took forever to warm up and if it was below 55* they would never warm up. the biggest difference is the feel going into a corner. the supercorsas would just get to a point and drop. the pilot powers are linear and feel much better.

What kind of mileage are you getting on the street bikes with the race compound? Also, what are the bikes we are talking about. Just curious about the trade off of expense vs. wear. I'm sure the Race is a better and stickier tire, but for me personally, even with track days, I'm not sure I could justify the extra purchase money combined with the shorter life.

Yup! The Powers are a great street & track day tire. Enough side grip to run back of Advanced or front of Intermediate with any track day org.

Have the 2cts on my gixxer. I have about 2700 on the rear tire now and it is starting to get pretty low. Awsome tires though.

On the street they wear very fast and after a few heat cycles they start to suck more and more. Till the time they break down though they are the best tire i have ever ridden on and I have pretty much tried them all over the year, i am strictly a Michelin man now though. After they get harder i slap them on my Gixxer stunter and smoke em! I have a 600rr track bike and a R1 for the street.

Good to hear! Now we just need to get your punk ass out on the track this year and start melting those tires off!! I was just looking at those tires yesterday when I was picking up some new gloves and race suit from sportbiketrackgear.com (only a few miles from me). I ran the pirelli supercorsa's (soft rear/supersoft front) a few years ago when I was doing track days with my R6, Loved the tires except for the lack of warming up on the street. Tried the Pilot Race tires 2 years ago on the street and never made it to the track with them.
fwiw I went for a quick ride yesterday in my new Held Phantom gloves and they kick ass!! Made of kangaroo leather, kevlar, and stingray skin!!! I almost can't wait to crash in them to see if they hold up like they say they do

Don't even bother with a 2 piece suit you'll end up hating it. The jackets are cut shorter since they need to zip to the pants, when you do zip them together you get all that extra bulk in the mid section from the joint. Just get a good 1 piece and you'll be glad you did. Here's the link to the Alpinestar Replica Race Suit I just put some cash down on.... $1,300 for last years model (retails for $1,900 and the new one is $2,400) but it is the best you can get!! You can get a very good suit for $600-800 but this suit just fit like a glove so I decided to go all out.... and it's fully perforated you can't beat that!!

As far as boots go you can't go wrong with a pair of Sidi's, I have the older Vertibrae boots but I really want to upgrade to the new SIDI Vertigo Corsa Air Boots

Here's the gloves I just picked up

I've run a 2 piece Dainese for a few years, before that I had a different 2 piece. I wouldn't disagree that a one piece is a nicer set-up, but if you only wear the pants (or the one piece) a handful of times per year, I think a two piece is a good alternative. I might do a track day or two a year, some years none at all. For that, I think a two piece is money better spent.
The Alpinestar suit is very nice, but if I was spending that kind of money, I would just go for a custom suit like a Vanson. I'm on my second pair of Alpinestar boots, they are very nice. The Held gloves are great as well, but at nearly $300, pretty spendy.

Hospitals and physical theropy are "spendy" also!

I wear my whole suit when I go out to RIDE, if it's just going to work or something it's just the jacket as I ride alot more conservative. I'm just guessing here that n2o already has a jacket and wants to buy the pants that match, I think he'd be better off buying the 1 piece for just a little more than the pants alone and keep the jacket for the "easy" rides. Once you get used to riding in full gear you feel naked on the street without it.

I guess I was just thinking that pants for a few hundred dollars (assuming he has a jacket that will zip pants in) is more than "just a little more" for a new 1 piece at around $1500. I guess its a matter of interpretation. I've ridden many, many miles in full leathers and I do ride closer to the edge when dressed properly. However, as I've gotten older, I find myself doing it less and less. When I was 27 like you, I was on an FZR1000 and the edge was the only place to ride, mostly in full leathers.
Like I said, full one piece leathers are the best, I guess I just don't see upwards of another $1000 to go that route as making a lot of sense unless you spend a significant amount of time on the track.
