Full Version: z1 Turbo LXR LE

Well after pondering for the last month what I wanted to order, I just ordered the Turbo LE. I had made my mind up that was going to order a F8 LXR LE, and as I was sitting down to give the dealer the down payment I said screw it go for the turbo. When you get up to $10000 for a sled, whats an extra $2000. I figure I am not going to buy another sled for awhile since I put quit a few miles on each year i should not have to worry about reliability.
Talk to rep at show and he said the turbo has been out for a couple years. He said one of the test that arctic cat did was put the turbo on a dyno for 200hrs non stop wide open and there was never any issues. The also said the turbo gets 1 mpg better than the non turbo. I also think the resale value will be more for the turbo vs a 2 stroke. Now all I have to do is make it through the next 6 months waiting for it to come in.

Congrats I'm sure that you will love it! My dad just traded his 07 F8 LXR in on the turbo LE as well. I love the look of the turbo because I think it looks mean and fast! beer_cheers.gif

I can't wait for mine either! Lots of guys on this forum seem to be jumping on the band wagon. Does that mean Cat will sell a zillion, or does it mean that all guys ordering Turbo's are active on this forum! LOL

I'm right behind ya.....was supposed to see my dealer this weekend but plans have changed and now have to wait til next weekend.... just before the spring promo expires.
I haven't been this excited to order a new sled in quite awhile....I really hope it's the beast that it's supposed to be.

I have mixed feelings about studding sleds. My F7 has studs..my Zr doesn't.
What do you think the minimum amount of studs should be?

Remember Me? Young 4 Stroker and Old 4 Stroker. Happy to hear about your new toy. The old boy and I were just at the spring snowmobile show and cheaked out the new turbo. Just turned the t660 turbo over 10,000 miles and figure its time for a new sled. Hopefully we can share once in awhile boxen.gif going to the dealers in the AM but I want to look for a new 4 wheeler. but my money is on the old boy buying the new turbo thumbsup.png

this may sound like a dumb question but is this going to be a 120mph sled out of the box or will a person have to juice it up, what has been said about this sled, very close to ordering a le my self will keep my apex.

I think it will be a smooth quiet fast heavy sled, I am thinking 120 in ideal conditions.

I'm envious guys! This is also the first sled in years that makes me want to go to the dealer with my checkbook and sign up. However, I'll stick to my rule and wait for the second model year so some of the bugs are worked out. Will probably also take that long to convince myself to spend 12K on a sled. russian_roulette.gif

I too have a Z1 Turbo LXR LE on order, signed the papers this week. I was going to retire the 01 Pantera, but will keep it one more year as it is not worth much to sell anyway. I will add a tall windshield, saddlebags and a GPS system when it gets here in the fall. I am going to use it just for trail riding, but looking forward to the power!

Viper, i'm thinking 3 per bar at least for this thing, any less may be too hard on the track. And they have to be 1 3/8" for the 1 1/4 " lug. Thats alot of weight too.Anybody else have a suggestion??

I'm going to run 3 per bar,153.I was thinking I needed 4,or 204 total.But my dealer has talked me out of it."demished returns"after 153, and starts taking away top end.Jay

This is my take on the whole studding question.
This is what I posted on arcticchat.com about studding a 1" track on an F8.
The tracks now a days are so much better, they can handle more stress then back in the day.
I can't remember the last time any of us pulled out a stud because of to few of studs and we ride pretty hard.
Not saying it can't happen, but less unlikely to happen than back a few years ago.

You don't need any more that 102 in your F8. (I will be running two per paddle on my Z1 Turbo).
I ran my 07 F8 snopro now for 2 years and it's perfect on the trails and rivers with 102.
Pull the back blocks out and the transfer and hook up will be great.
1.175" woodys gold diggers work good, more than that you're asking for problems.
None of the guys I ride with run more than two studs per paddle and we all run muscle sleds, we do a lot of river running and average 4000-6000 miles each per year without any issues what so ever.
My buddy even runs 96 studs on his vector turbo and I also run 96 1.175" in my 05 Mach Z.
Everyone says run more but it's not nessesary unless you're doing major ice drags or speed runs.
Less rotating mass and less weight also.
It's like the old laying on a bed of nails trick. They use a lot of nail so they don't get punctured (no penatration) but if they spaced the nails apart, they would fall right through. (better penatration on ice).
The more studs you use the more carbide you will need because otherwise it will push in the corners and that will make it harder to steer because of the big carbides.
Remember, you can always add more if you don't like it but you probably won't take any out if it's to much.
Just my opinion.

Good post, I have 144 1.325 Woddy's gold diggers in a 4-2-4-2 pattern on my ZR, to much friction and weight, previous to that sled I was using screw in studs with no problems in my 02 ZR 800CC, 03 F7 Sabercat LE, and my my 04 T660.

On my Z1 Turbo, I may go with screw in's or use push in studs in a 2-2-2 pattern or a 2-3-2, no matter what I'll stud in such a pattern that the head of the studs will not touch the drivers.

That's the problem I had with studs on my F7. The heads were right in line with the wheels which made the wheels wear out pretty quick. I don't want to have the same problem on the Z1.
I have always had the dealer install studs and that's why I was asking how many to get installed before I put my order in this weekend. Maybe I would be better off ordering it unstudded and then install them myself sometime later but not sure if I could do the job myself without screwing it up. Probably going to be a last minute decision.

Everytime I stud a sled I say it'll be my last time, but whenever I get a new sled I stud it myself maybe it's a bonding thing lol.

Studding's easy, mark all your holes, drill your holes and cauterize the holes by getting the bit to start smoking, push your studs through, put the washer and nut on, and then tighten, an air ratchet is nice to have, it's that easy, it's just a pain in the ass bending over.

Studding is pretty simple.
Sometime it's time consuming but what the heck.
Get a couple of buddy, a case of beer, a few tools and have a fun night.
Throw a rope over the rafters or use a jack, but get the back of the sled up off the ground good so you can work from the underside. (turn the gas off if you can).
I few years back I said I didn't think I could do it with out screwing it up either, but now I built a shop, have a compressor and air tools and it only takes about an hour to do 96 studs.
I love doing it now.
