I just tallied up the cash I spent on sledding this year,$1000 just on a few parts (carbides, belt, etc),gas, oil, insurance, trail pass. That doesn't even count the sled or the new track last year or the vacation days I had to use before the snow melted weekly, and I only went out maybe 8 times.
CRAZY!!!! Like a dollar a mile or more.4 shitty winters in a row!

I calculated my gas and oil costs for the season, but for a different reason. This winter I have been driving a 08 GSX 600 SDI and I wanted to see the savings in gas and oil over the 05 sled I was driving last winter. I realized a saving of $890 in 4000 miles That is equivelent to another 4 days on a saddle bag trip. This is just the saving between the two machines and doesn't include any other costs.

Every gas stop my 07 800HO P-tek always takes atleast $2 LESS then all my friends with there 500SS engines 600cc ski-doo's. We all ride to the bars guess my machine just has to work abit less to ride with them. Me alone or racing its gone in no time.
I had the gf one day and still clipping along pretty good and when I figured my gas milage out I was getting 19.8 mpg with it.
I put on 1800 miles used two jugs of injection oil about, bought 2 belts, 1 pair of runnes and a pair of slides and one idler wheel bearing. I also replaced 196 studs (bought last year) I also changed the plugs like 3-4 times but I was racing too so... 2 -1st place, 6 -2nd place finish's
I did burn down the sled this year but that was warranty after the stock pipe blew apart, I was lucky it didn't burn completly burn.
Next year may have to get another ripsaw I'm ripping lugs off mine, 3 rollers for the clutch, another spring, another belt, porting, black box, and 2 Nitrous bottles to be mounted over my rear heat exchanger for looks of course and a flame thrower for those damn "stock cats" yeah right stock/bigbore lol Maybe a turbo also... Wonder if that will work on the 900cc pump gas kit I can get for my 800HO?
Next year will cost more I see already!!! Hell, I'll be out on it all summer in the sand pit, on the grass and across the water. ;p

Okay, I'm honestly not trying to start an argument with you or anyone else that uses this forum, but all winter long, I have read your posts about how crappy a winter we're having and how this sucks, and that sucks, and there's no snow, blah blah blah. I think myself and many others will agree that this has been one of the best winters we've had around here in a while. There are still people sledding up around Sutherland's lake, and there is still anywhere from 1 to 7-8 feet of snow in New Brunswick. This has been, and still is a great year. If you spent half as much time on your machine as you do in this forum crying about how everything sucks, you'd have 4000 miles on too.
If you have to sit around and calculate how much money you spent on something, you obviously don't like doing it that much and maybe you should consider another sport like darts or something that doesn't involve costs. Again, I'm not trying to start anything, but we snowmobilers are a dying breed as it is, and we should be encouraging other people to get involved in the sport or it will die, it is posts like the ones you always leave on here that deter people from wanting to get into the sport. Like the old saying goes " if you don't have something good to say, don't say anything at all"

I hope you don't think you're alone with the cost thing. I'm sure with the miles I put on this year it probably cost me more than you. I never add those things up, probably barf if I thought about it. Last year I made 7 trips to the Highlands, sometimes alone in my Tahoe and trailer. $200-$250/day was normal, but hey it's the price of playing. It's an expensive sport but any motorsport is. As for the winter I have to agree with Lucas, better than the last 2, at least I did get out locally this year. If it's something you really like to do and can somehow afford it, it's all good.

I'd be afraid to think what I spent and all my sledding was pretty much local, fr. Dalhousie to Chignecto. If you're going to play you're going to pay. As for a shitty winter

, I missed 2 weekends since the first of Dec.,but I suppose if you're making the call by looking out the window in Truro..................... Last weekend was nothing less than near perfect on Higgins Mtn and surrounding area.

It was one of the best seasons in quite a long time!
Wish I was home more because this would have been my highest milage year yet.

It might be expensive, but it's only a 4 month season at best. It's bar-none the funnest thing i ever did. I got out a dozen times this year and i'm satisfied. just traded in my 05f7sp for the 1000r. It's going to be a long summer........

Actually, I've got alot more than 1000 miles on now, and I've been all over the place, I just haven't updated my profile. Like I said man, no hard feelings, I'm just saying, if you aren't satisfied with how many miles you put on this year, drive a couple hours, there's still tonnes of sledding left. I'm planning another trip to N.B. for next weekend with a bunch of buds. If you want to come with us, you're more than welcome.

Thanx for the offer but thats what exactly what I mean I can't justify spending $500 + or - to put a couple hundred more miles on my sled in N.B. or C.B. Alot of people I know barely took their sled out this year some didn't at all because of the rising costs and poor winters.
I've been spending alot of cash on other more important things recently and with my dirtbike and Jeep snowmobiling is most likely going to be phased out soon, thats all. maybe one more year.

hahaha if sledding costs u a $1 a mile it must of cost me 2-3,
this year i'm going to schol and don't got a whole lot of cash to mess around like i use too back in the elan day( man they were the best)
this year my rear shocks went and i wanted to put a bigger suspension in my sled that ment mounting a a whole new suspension and moving mounting brakets and buying a suspension and track and $$ to get the stuff,
after i got the suspension in the track on and the gas to get it it was about 250,
thats like 1 month of gas to school,
and after i fixed it i got about 1 1/2 decent trip to falmout on a TEST RUN AND 1 TRIP TO THE VALLEY WHERE THE TRACK CAME OFF, I'm some glad i have some good friends who helped me out thea day! THANKS BOYS& GIRLS I APPREACEATE IT!
I bought some oil used about 1/2 of what i bought, but will work in dirtbike!
frigin ever since i got the general lee i only realy drove it on trails, ohh wait i insured the sled and registered it too for 2 trips to the valley, anyways when i was a elanin hound i rode that thing from after the neighboors woke up till like 10 at night, man that elan has more mile on it in about a 3 km strech of land than i have on my general lee, well now i got a elan of my own so i'm suppin her up for the grass drags look out!!
buyt in all sleddin is a blast and just lookin at the seenery on the trails or hittin jack rabbits with ur skis in the valley, is some nice! only next year i hope to have my elan or my dirtbike geared up for the trail!
