Do I have to worry about Cold sieze when I start asphalt racing or is the ambient temp warm enough.
Cleveland
Yep, Locked mine up last year. If you ride it up to the line you'll be OK.

What many call "cold seizure" is actually sometimes causes by poor atomization of air/fuel mixture. This can happen if carbs are too big, fuel is old or low in volatility. The effect is one of running "lean" because some of the fuel doesn't burn. Warming an engine assists this mixing effect but hurts volumetric efficency and hp. Ever notice how a cold carbureted auto engine stumbles and coughs when cold even with a rich choke setting? Even EFI engines must be ran in a richer mode till the engine warms up.

If a race motor ever cold siezes the builder screwed up bad.

Not sure what any one else does, but I usually hook my cool down hoses to the sled and let it run for a while circulating through the system. I do this before I bring the sled to the line.

Really? I tend to disagree 2000%

when you build an engine for drag racing do you want tight clearences or loose?

im thinking you would want loose because the motor never really gets hot enough to fully expand.
