So I picked up a PW80 for my son. He has a few years under his belt on his 50 quad & Lil' Indian plus the Kitty Kat. Just got it last week. Today I was on the DK site getting him set with all the gear...roost gaurd, boots, gloves, shin/arm gaurds even the kidney belt & of course some sweet SHIFT gear. As I'm on the site I get an e-mail from my M-inlaw with an article attached...

Motorbike Rider, 7, Killed On Dirt Track
FENTON, Mich. -- Authorities said a 7-year-old boy was killed when his motorized dirt bike crashed at a track south of Flint.
Witnesses said the boy lost control of the bike and hit a pole Monday at Fenton Indoor Motocross in Genesee County's Fenton Township. ********* died three hours later at Genesys Regional Medical Center.
Track manager Tommy Barron tells The Flint Journal the bike's handlebar apparently hit the boy in the chest.

Barron said there have been other crashes since the track opened in November, none of them serious.

My heart just sank at that point. Then I got pissed at my M-inlaw for sending it. Then I thought why didn't I have all this stuff when he was on his 50 just around the yard??? I felt like I was doing the right thing always making him where the helmet. Now I think maybe I just got lucky nothing ever happend to him. I even let him ride the 80 when we first got it with just a helmet this week. It's on lock down in the garage until Friday when UPS shows up. I'll be ordering a Tek Vest for myself soon also...just makes too much sense not to.

I don't know the family this happend to, or even the date of this article...she just cut & pasted part of it, no link. But my deepest sympathy goes out to them. This woke me up to my responsibility to keep him wearing the proper gear at all times no matter how short the ride. I don't know the details, but would have to assume he was wearing all the right gear if it was at a track. Maybe it was a freak occurrence that couldn't be helped even with the gear. Hopefully it makes others think about getting all the right gear too.

He did have all the right gear. Sounds like there may be more to it as the ambulance broke down on the way delaying help.
Prayers to the family.

My little cousin got into a serious accident this past summer, wearing all his gear and everything chest protector the whole bit, his bike broke down then his buddy went to go get help and somehow my cousins bike started again so he started to come back when his buddy was just coming back also to check on him, the wrong way on the trail and they collided head on, the buddy broke his leg and my cousin suffered head trama and a broken thumb/arm, he took a couple months to recover to ride again but he isnt quite the same kid he was before, alot calmer. Lucky to be alive however.
