Hey, Im only 16 years old but very much into racing. I was planning on buying a new sled next year but i found this. I have a 97 xc 600 tripple i was wondering if a slp 654 kit would be worth the $1400. Im saving my money and wodering if i should get it. or is there anything else out there that will make this go from 90-95 hp to the slp 654 impressive 135hp. thanks derek

I would save your money and put it towards a newer sled. I thought of doing this on my 97 XLT and ended up just getting a Pro X 600 instead. Just a thought.

You should sell the sled and get a 98 or newer. The case-reed twins flat out rip and are also lighter in the nose. You wont regret it i promise. 1luvu.gif

ylsuper.gif I had a 97 xc600 w/ 654 kit, pipes, etc. and if your sled is in really good shape you can make it run with the case reeds. The 654 kit appears to add a lot of torque along w/ the hp. which is what the case reed variable exhaust motors do. I took the 654 kit off and sold it because you can't run pipes in Vermont any more because of the new noise level law. I have the 654 kit , pipes, clutch kit etc., if you're interested. ( for a lot less than $1400.00). m2c.gif

In my opinion, you'd be ahead if you bought a 2000 or newer sled. The small block variable exhaust 600 is a much better motor than the big block 600. Both hp and gas mileage will be much better! If you put pipes on your 97, you should be able to "beat up" on the 98 and 99 big block 600's and run w/most of the 700 that don't have variable exhaust. The 654 kit would make your sled even stronger. flag_usa.gif

If you are racing then buy a newer sledd, the newer sledds have more power to begin with. This way when you add the SLP kit to your new sledd then you will that much farther ahead. Not to mention the Suspenions have come a very long way since 97.

If you are 16 years old then you have many years of riding ahead of you, unless you ride around with that loud high performance pipe. Landowners get annoyed when a uneccesarily loud snowmobile crosses their land. Some Landowners have given us permission to ride across their land, this makes up the majority of our trail system. Do your best to keep our trails open. Remove the pipe when on that trail system, you don't need a pipe to stay below the speed limits.
