02 zr 800, assume all are like this on cats......of this vintage anyways......

filled up the other day, drove a bit and noticed that the fuel guage was reading between e and f but on the opposite side, as in not a half tank but exact opposite and tank was almost full...now I am at about 3/4 tank and the needle is sitting past the full spot and is by the E.....I move the float up and down, nothing....almost looks like two rods and a twisty and the float should maybe be holding on the rods as well.....has anyone else every had this problem, or an idea of how to fix this????thanks.

Try spreading the two holders and rotating the float half a turn

If I remember correctly your float should be hanging on to the two rods like you suggested, if it isn't try rotating it so that it is.

is the float still attached to the gauge assembly? I've had 3 cats of this era and all of them have had the gauge fall apart on me. Somehow the spiral thing that the float moves up and down on falls out and so does the float, meaning your needle always points in random spots. I ended just ordering a new one for the last sled i had and they musta fixed the problem cause that one worked fine.
