Full Version: Questions on 600HO

I put a bunch of thought into this, and i plan on going to 600HO route over the 600VES...but I have a few things ive been wondering about. This will be going into an 05 racer chassis.

1. Oil Injection- Can I run this motor without it? I am mostly worried about the oil pump not fitting into the chassie, and spending the money on getting an oil tank and finding a place to put it. I would almost rather and feel safer running this sled pre-mix. If i do what will have to be done to the motor to ensure reliability.

2. Speedo/tach- I plan on picking up a mostly complete 600HO-probably a fusion. I am not aware of the wiring or anything on this sled, but I was planning on using all the 600HO stuff and getting rid of the 440 stuff. I have an idea of just using the digital tach/speedo and modding the hood to fit it. My only concern is not being able to run the speedo--if this is the case ill stick with the tach thats on there. Im not too sure how the speed sensor works on the fusion? Will I be able to mod the IQ driveshaft and maybe use the bearing mounting off the fusion to get a speedo. Im assuming the fusion just has a speed sensor built into the bearing housing that picks a signal off the driveshaft? Otherwise, Will the tach on the 440 plug into the 600 harness??

3. PERC- I would really like to keep this. Hopefully I can rewire it so i dont have to use the big ass handlebar control. But, Im more worried about clutches. I dont think the 440 secondary would work with perc correct? Can I get a new helix and other parts for the 440 secondary or would I be just as well or better off using the one off of the fusion?

4. VES- the HO has some plug for the VES. What is this for and will i run into problems if i dont use the 600HO wiring harness.

5. Exhaust- Plan on using the 600 y-pipe and hopefully the 600 pipe will come close enough to wear I can make it fit. Would like to use either the stock 600 or 440 pipe. If I use the 600 pipe will the 440 can still work with some mods? Otherwise will the regular 440 pipe mod work to wear I can use it with the 600 y pipe and motor.

6. Carbs/Airbox- Plan on using the 600 carbs, how much modification will have to be done to get it to fit nice with the airbox?

7. Suspension- I have a set of fox floats and a 121 expert-X rear skid. Should I keep the W/E's or use the floats? I also plan on keeping the IQ rear skid, but would the expertX be that much better that I should sell the IQrace skid and install it? Otherwise I plan on selling what I dont use to help pay for this project.

Otherwise I have the big tank, and im getting a new seat here pretty soon. This summer I will be doing a 100% chassis tear down and rebuild up reinforcing and fixing anything that needs it. I looked at AKIQ's site and plan on doing all the 05 stuff that is recommended. I have access to welder, mills, hopefully aluminum mig, etc.

If anyone wants to trade or has a set of black side panels for sale let me know also. I might keep the white hood, but may sell/trade that also for a black one. But, I wont know that for another month or so about the hood so don't ask about the hood right now if you're interested as i dont know yet.

If I have any more questions ill come and ask them in here. I searched for some stuff, read all the pinned topics, but this is just some stuff im not 100% clear on yet. Thanks for all the help, its appreciated......ill need A LOT of it this summer lol

1. Run the oil injection...It fits fine and 08' iq600RR oil bottles bolt right in!

2. I have seen people cut the hood for the digital speedoo and made it work, however it is way harder because you have to use the fusion chassis harness, and use the driveshaft speed sensors. If you want a speedo, have a buddy pace you with the new motor and put hash marks on your tach. If you are looking for an easy install don't use the digital speedo. Use the 440 tach, It plugs right in.

3. Perc can be wired to your dragon button. I did it on my HO and it works sweet, no beeper though...search "reverse" and you will get the instructions how.

4. Use the 600 HO CDI harness, and the 440 Hood/Chassis harness.

5. 600HO y pipe fits best

6. 600HO carb to Airbox boots needed to use the stock 440 airbox

7. I would use the WE's and keep the Polaris skid. If they are too stiff, have them valved down. Depending on the Float valving, they may be too mushy or just right.

good luck

thanks autolodge

got a bunch of stuff bookmarked, hopefully when i do my build ill be able to find a lot of it. Still debating on oil injection though, we will see.

Now I need to find my donor sled, hope to have this thing running sometime end of june/july. Gives me all of may/june to get parts, build and paint everything, and get it all cleaned up.
Guy...
have you seen powderhound's thread.

its a step by step tutorial on a 600ho conversion

also for suspension setup between tom and i we can fix you up and make it ride like a million bucks. are you going to put brads 2 inch shorter spindles on it? or at least one inch shorter.

Ya, I have one bookmarked of his. Not too much info in that thread though, maybe there is a differant one. I will search his topics.

Ok, I might send my shocks out to you to at least get revalved. I also will probably change the front springs and rear skid springs. The thing is like a brick right now since it was set up for freesyle but the guy never jumped it.

I might get a set of spindles, or try making a set of my own. I know my front set up is going to have to be messed around with, because it turns really hard right now.

the rewar springs are not bad but the fornt i get softer one. the 150 lb spring is a great spring, the 170lb is way stifff more mose uses. as for the rear it mostly shock valving. the 05 were setup way way hard, to hard maybe even for snox. the skid reloction is a great idea also. lower in the front is key to. they are way high. brad sprindles ofr even on from a 07 or 08 are a huge improvment.

The 600HO from the fusion and the regular IQ chassie are the same correct? Would i be better getting it from an IQ or a fusion? I would assume the motor, electrical, etc is all the same between those two sleds.
Fast Rider
fusion is the iq chassis just different plastics. I would think your assumptions are correct. Donors sleds are decent cuz you have essentially everything you need and then a bunch of stuff to sell off afterwards. Depending on the condition of the donor i would think a fusion would be a bit cheaper due to the name and year. Other than that just giv'er hell man

you said that you were going to get a new seat i have a seat that i'll trade (my stock seat off my mod sled, no tears) for your freestyle seat if yoru interested..

Thanks, looks like ill be looking at that one a lot. Did you end up using the VF3 out of the 440 and just drop them into the HO or did you have to mod anything. That was actually going to be one of my Q's but I forgot that one.

Still running the stock HO reeds...response is great. Polaris actually knocked it out of the park on this set of reeds. No complaints.

WI, if you need any help, PM me your phone number. the 600Ho bolts right in and plenty of room for the oil pump as its on the back of the motor. use oil injection. i used a fusion oil tank, fits like it is supposed to be there even with my twin pipes. ill get some pics for you. 440 airbox fits like a glove. if you wanna give me a call and i can help answer some questions, shoot me a PM and ill get you my number and pics of anything of you want them
