I've decided to trade up my 07 Rev MXZ X 800 PTEK for an XP 800R. The only question is whether to go with the MXZ-X or Adrenaline.

While I truly enjoy riding the bumps I consider myself a modestly aggressive rider rather than a truly agressive X-rider. I am considering the more trail friendly adrenaline because of its built in storage pocket, softer-calibrated suspension, stock higher windshield. I like the X- because of the better instrumentation, stocked hook handlebars, somewhat better resale value, it also looks "cooler".

My ideal ride is 200 miles/300 km on well groomed hard pack trails with a little bit of rough stuff thrown in for fun. I have found that I ride my 06 600 SDI GSX better than my 07 Rev MXZ-X - maybe because it is a little lighter and more forgiving? In fairness I am not the most technical guy on the forum and have never really taken a good look at the suspension settings on my 07 X and probably won't be doing it any time soon. Thus, I am looking for something stock that offers comfort with the ability to take the big bumps.

Does anyone have a recommendation?

A couple of things that brought me back to the x package. The biggest item was rebuildable shocks, then gauge package, riser/bars, and the 1.25" track. It was nice to have all that stuff out of the box. They can be easily added to an Adrenaline but it was less hassle with the x.

I agree. If the valving is to stiff on the X package shocks you can have them revalved softer. Ian at Monster Performance does a great job at revalving shocks to peoples weight and riding style. He is also good at helping out with spring combinations. http://monsterperf.com/

Get the X package, then with your $350 in accessories, get a higher windshield, see if your dealer or someone will trade you seats. The suspension can be set very soft on the X, although, not sure why you'd want that...enjoy the ride!!!

Decisions, Decisions...

I'm going to my dealer today to see if I can sort it all out. I do get the sense that the dealer is pushing the Adrenaline more than the X. Maybe they make more on Adrenaline sales?

I'd like to hear from people who own Adrenalines to get their sense of the differences between the two sleds.

Thanks

I sat on the 09's at the snow show and I really liked the seat on the x model. The suspension and the gauges are enough for me to go X. I think I'm going to go with the Etec though. The gas mileage, low oil usage, and the easy throttle pull are the deciding factors for me.

X2 rebuildable shocks was definatly on the list for me. The X is to stiff for me, cause I got her on the softest setttings all round. MUCH stiffer than any X package I have ever had... and I have had alot.

We've got an adrenaline and TNT. The TNT is the wrong machine for both of us - it's just way too stiff for everyday trail riding which is all we do. It's on ebay if you are interested; and we're keeping the adrenaline! If you spend all your time on the trails, the adrenaline or GSX is much better choice than an X or TNT. I'll bet your dealer is pushing the adrenaline because he is listening to you. I wish the high tech gauge came with the adrenaline. The GSX has the gauge, mirrors and bag for only $400 more than the adrenaline.

Always so much talk about "rebuildable shocks". I always wonder how many trail riders have to have them rebuilt??

Funny I rode about 170 miles yesterday on my 06 600 SDI GSX and had an absolutely amazing time - I had forgotten how much fun sledding could be with an easier riding sled. The only thing I missed yesterday from my X was the brake response (with the braided brake line) which is much more sensitive on the X, other than that I'd take hte GSX all the way. I thought long and hard and decided that even though the X might be the 'better' sled it's not likely the better sled for me. That's why I've pretty much decided on the Adrenaline with a few mods like J-hooks. As far as the upgraded instrument package on the X - I can live without the distractions anyway!

I agree about the rebuildable shocks.

I think you can upgrade the guage package.

Since you have both the GSX and the X package maybe you can help me out on this question. I have an '04 GSX which is the most comfortable riding machine I have ever owned. However when going fast over unexpected bumps it will bottom out very hard and almost cause me to lose control. I am on the fence between a new GSX or the Adrenaline. I don't mind giving up some comfort for better shocks in the occasional unexpected big bump at high speed. I have almost lost control on my GSX a few times. I had a '07 IQ which I liked the shocks better on. I sold that because of the terrible gas mileage and constant recalls.

Sorry if I hijacked the thread a little.

I've never had that happen to me before - my GSX handles most bumps 'almost' as well as the X, although I'm not a very big guy (5 7" and 180lbs). I have to agree with the GSX being the most comfortable ride ever - its a great sled for racking up serious miles. The GSX is unofficially my wife's sled. The reason I'm likely going with the Adrenaline is the somewhat stiffer calibration on the suspension (which can always be adjusted) and the general appearance - the Adrenaline looks sportier. BTW the GSX no longer comes with the 800 R option for 2009 - 600 E-tech or 1200 four stroke only.

Thanks much! I like the red color of the GSX but don't need electric start with 600 e-tech and guess I would rather have the stiffer shocks of the Adrenaline.

I could be wrong but I think the Adrenaline and the GSX have the same shocks - except that the Adrenaline comes pre-set for a somewhat firmer ride.

Either way I don't think you can go wrong.

Good luck.

Rebuildable shocks on the x! Don't buy an 08 x, mine is a pos!, wait until next year. Even my bros with rev's like the ride but wouldn't trade for the performance issues!

Actually the more that I think about it I would only be bringing you into the useless brp parts hell by not trying to sell you on a different manufacturer! Try this, a simple exhaust donut, they lost on the first recall, took the whole season to get! Dealer response, too bad. Reflector decals, $15, I mailed to you, too bad. I do not have them, dealer to me again too bad! Now if a wheel falls off the sled it will destroy the track, suspension, slide rails, wheels, and maybe the tunnel. Dealer answer, since mine did not break, and we know it will, your on your own. If you go into any other dealer they will install the three wheel kit. Mine sux! Cover sux! It has not done the same run back to back since I purchased, dealer answer, what do you want me to do?

Brp parts this year-F
Hype-A+
Real world- D-
Dealer network-D

Oil leaks, eats $ 150.00 belts, hood only clips on one side, tunnel looks like shizz, wind protection sux, secondary clutch is a pos inside and out, even the cover only made three trips, which was 2 more than the pos gade did.

Handwarmers suk, thumb warmer suk And this was changed by recall.

They both have HPG shocks but the rear shock on the GSX is variable ratio. It gives a soft ride on top and then gets stiffer. Because it is variable ratio it is a compromise shock. Great for ride compliance but not as good as a shock dedicated to not bottoming from the start like the Adrenaline shocks.

My '04 has the HPG variable shock on the rear and it bottoms out very harshly(almost throwing me off the sled) when I unexpectedly hit a deep depression or big bump. I Polaris IQ shock was much stiffer and did not bottom out like my GSX shock.

You are right in that you can't really go wrong with either!
