I just bought the gpsmap 60. I'm new to the gps world and will only use it in the U.P. once in a while, fishing, and on the road here and there. What do you think of this gps?

Is it the plain "60" with black and white screen or the color 60C or 60CX?

The basic 60 is a nice entry unit, does most things well and should serve you fine. The C added color and was a very good unit in it's day. The CX improved on the 60C by adding expandable map storage plus a better receiver (significantly better). I consider the 60CX to be about the best all around hand held unit currently available.

It is the 60, without the color screen. Will I have any problem finding satellites while trail riding?

No. You may lose satellites from time to time and it'll take longer to acquire them, but it'll work fine for trail riding.

Can I load snowmobile trails/atv trails onto the gps? Or do I need to save tracks for that?

Sure. It will be harder to differentiate the trails from roads, if you are using a map that contains roads/rivers/etc since they will all be some shade of grey (vs a color unit).

I got the gps and I think it will work really well for me on the trail. I have found a few maps with trails on them. However, I also wanted to use the gps on the road some too. Does anybody have this gps and the city navigator (I think that's what I would want). How does it work for turn by turn directions? How much of the navigator map will the 24mb hold?

Or City Select????

24 megs will hold quite a bit. I used to have a 24 meg LegendC and it stored City Select maps for my route from Northern MN to Northern IL and quite a bit around Chicago. Of course it depends on how big the map sections are and how many roads there are in the area you need.
