Can anyone tell me how to solve the following problem:

I have an 05 AC Panterra 550cc. I am having problems turning it. Does that mean that I have too much ski pressure, or too little? If so do I adjust the front springs, the cam or the strap? I do NOT have the helper springs up, it rides much nicer with out those. I beleive that I have the cam set on 3 and I love the ride I just want the steering a little more "free". Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

too much weight on the ski'is so yes lets the straps out maybe 2 turns and try it again. my zl has about 1/4 inch of threads showing on the end of the adjusters so i imagine you can go out that far and test it to see if that works for you. remember you dont wanna take too much off or you cant steer...keep that in mind as trail conditions do change somewhat

I have 6" woody's carbides. Not the duelys. And it is studded with I beleive 110 studs.

well id def. work with ski pressure first...if that dont work..maybe lower the length of carbide to 4"

Thanks! I had 4" on it and then got studs and could not handle the sled so I was told to go with 6" which made a HUGE improvement. Now I just want the steering a little more free.

I appreciate your help!

one thing I always try to remember, especially since i put new skis on my machine(it steers very hard now) that as you lighten your ski pressure you are more apt to push in the corners. The best thing to do is to do one adjustment at a time(do it slowly, not drastically) and ride it in as many different types of conditions as you can. Sooner or later you will find the right setup that you like. I'm always afraid of pushing thru a corner so I tend to keep my ski pressure a little stiffer.
If you can find a cat rider with a similar setup and sled, that usually drives to the near perfect setup.

If your looking for just a little more freedom, try the simple one first...drop the cams on the front suspension down and see if it works for you. It's a lot easier than standing on your head to release that strap.

Good luck to you.

Not to sound like a complete idiot but what exactly is pushing thru a corner? I think I know what you mean, but not quite sure.

no such thing as idiot when it comes to learning to setup a sled. it's a very complex thing to find what you like to match your style of riding. Pushing thru a corner is when you turn the skis but it seems like it's "plowing" up the snow and not turning even though you got the handlebars cranked around like it's neat....it just keeps fading out of the corner you are trying to turn through and leaving you on the wrong side of the trail.

I had similar issues with my Pantera. I took the front springs and made them loose to the point the spring rattled and then turned them in three full turns. It is easier to do this with the front end jacked up.

Take it for a ride and see how it feels. If it is light in steering ( not grabbing in the corner ) try another full turn in. Go for another ride in the same spot on the same day. Keep trying until the steering feels right. If you can't seem to get the results you want from this setup, you may need to adjust limiter straps to get the balance correct.

Try this first and see if you like the feel of the sled.

Catgirl,
I had the same problem with a 95' 550 Cougar 2up until I took out some studs. Had 144 to start and dropped to 96 OH MY what a huge difference what the hell try it if the ski pressure doesn't make a difference

Yep, let the limiter strap out some. That won't effect your ride quality, it'll just take pressure off the ski's a little. Are you just studded all down the center or do you have studs in the outter belts too?

Hey GearHd6!

It is studded in the center of the track, none on the edges.

So right now the sled just takes a lot of muscle to turn but when you do turn it it goes where you want it to? Or does it still want to go straight even when you turn it?
