Can anyone out there offer any suggestions on the best way to install the Air Box on a 2001 600 Grand Touring. There doesn't seems to be enough room to couple it to the installed carbs without putting alot of twisting pressure on the carbs and carb boots. Also the air box doesn't seem to have any fastenings of it's own other than being held in place by the carbs. Is this right? The sled came with the airbox off so I don't have any reference.

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but I have an MXZ800 and just had the airbox in and out several times while replacing my carb boots. If it is the same, you'll find that the airbox has 2 rubber boots on it that will connect to the carbs when it is in place...something important to note is that these boots are shaped and have a "top" as printed on them. Be sure that these are rotated into the up position, as it does effect the way the box sits. Once you have these situated, you pretty much just work it and angle it into position, making sure that the clamps stay in place and that you can get to the screws on them in in order to tighten them down. When wiggling the airbox in, the boots will bend/compress around the carb opening, but once it is all the way into the space, you will have a little room to play with to make them right.
As far as anything actually holding the airbox in place or supporting it's weight, the only thing is the points where it attached to the carbs. I am sure that this does not help with the longevity of the actual carb boots themselves.
Hope this helps.
