Well in prepartion for my new 121" 2 inch track, I trimmed about 6 inches off the tunnel, shortned the rear heat exchanger, tossed the old plastic crap bumper, and put a Old ZX chassis ski doo bumper on. Rear is way more stout now. Cant wait for the 121 then i will really be able to throw it around. Thought about the BD bumper kit but didnt want to shell out 200 Bucks. All I spent was 6 dollars in rivets and 15 bucks for a new ski doo bumper.

Everyone has there own thing I guess. Mike be ok if it was finished off a little more. Looks like crap the way it is IN MY OPINION.

Dude, you just made yourself a Firecat, pretty much. Why would you do such a mod? Not ragging on ya, just curious I have never seen such a thing.

Good work on the cut btw. Def. finish it off with a snowflap or soemthing.

shnizzelfizzel
keep us updated, would like to see it when done! It's a crossfire/firecat with the 15 inch wide track?
Rooster49
What suspension are you using? A 121" ZR skid?

I've been thinking about doing the same thing, but don't know what will work. I'd like to use a 128" Firecat skid (13.5") since I already have a studded trail track (1").

ak_fury
I will be using a skid out of a 02' ZR 800 Cross Country edition with fox clickers.

The Firecat skid will work too, but I think you will have to change drivers.
Rooster49
What part of the tunnel are you mounting the rear bolt on the skid?

Are you using the same mount (hangar) as the 136" skid or riveting a plate on the side of the tunnel like the Firecats.

Thanks and appreciate your info.
sledhead_583
i was thinking of doing this to my 153 M6 so it would be the same procedure except for different track drivers but i was wondering if the mounting points are the same between a cf and M???if there are then i could use the same skid you guys are using

Now that is a cool extra gas tank, do they make them for Z1's?
madam328
You are right. That is a extra fuel tank. I looked at if quickly and figured it was a larger oil res. Makes sense if you are racing it long distance.
sno_pro_500
ya the x fire rode well its to bad arctic cat didnt come out with a 121" they handle well and so balance , no loss in top speed also i seen alot of 105 mph in the trails , real easy to ride compare to a 136" also i made about 110 miles on the stock tank. now looking to install a 128 in my chassis this summer. i measure it out it will fit in the cut down ones we have. also the front z-broz shocks were the best front shocks i tryed, will use them again
SaberKitty
Where can one find more info/website/phone # for the Edge Performance fuel tank?
cmanz28
Maybe its these guys from Canada.....

i'm in the middle of my change over but what i'm doing is putting a 08 f sreies rear 128'' for the better ride with the front slide, but i'm just not to sure where i'm going put the rear bolt, where i drill the tunnel or install another set of flanges like the crossfire has on the rear part of the tunnel any ideas?

Do you have any more information about who built the tank? Was it made here in Anchorage? How does it mount? How is it plumbed in, does it have its own fuel pump? I am looking for something exactly like this and think I might try to get something made.
sno_pro_500
the tank is plumb in the back side rear next to the brake disk, there is a 1/2" peice weldes there and threded to hook up a 90* brass elbow, and from hpi performance, i bought a tank fitting that fitted next to the handle bar part of the gas tank drill a 1/2" hole and install this ruber gromment and fitting , the oil cap has a one way check valve in it, that why you see oil on the cap. then plug the main gas tank breather with a little screw and rtv sealent , then the gas gets sucked from the gas tank to the main one . about 3,5 gallons.
sledhead_583
so hows this conversion going??? i can buy a firecat skid dirt cheap to do the same thing to my m, what would i have to do to secure the skid to the tunnel?
Rooster49
I'm going to Princeton tomorrow to buy a 128" Firecat skid. I measured the distance from front skid bolt to center of driver and I got 7" on my '03 F7. then I measured my Crossfire and got 10".

So I'm wondering:
1. Do I drill a new front hole the same distance back from the driver and use a 128" skid
2. Or get a 121" ZR skid and hope that the 128" track will tighten up enough?

Any recommendations?

If this all works out, I'll have a narrow tracked 128" and a wide tracked 144" option for the year.

will a firecat skid bolt right up, i would imagine its too skinny, correct me if im wrong
Rooster49
The front arm on a '00 to '02 skid is the same as my Fcat skid, just narrower. So you can swap that so it will bolt in the tunnel. But, the rear scissor arm is longer on the F7 than the ZR - so that won't swap. The F7 skid is narrower. Maybe you can figure out a way to extend it to the tunnel width - but it has to be really strong and durable.

I'm going to put a 121" ZR skid in this weekend with a 13.5" wide track (128"). The outer bogey wheels need to slide in about 1/4 to 3/8" to stay on the track. I am expecting to install the hangar brace for the rear bolt 24" back from the front bolt. A big wheel kit will likely take up the slack (or bigger bogie wheels on top by the rear bolt).

My only real concern right now is the 2 bogie wheels on top of the scissor arm. Fcat skid has the 2 bogie wheels in the middle and the ZR has them on the outside by the tunnel.
snoprokidF6
ooo really i didnt kno that, learn new stuff everyday
my cats
With all this talk of x fire tunnels, whats the inside tunnel width?
Rooster49
The tunnel is 16" wide. The width of the front and rear arms are 15 3/4" wide. The ZR skid I bought is 1" wider, so I'm going to have to swap front and rear arms from my XF to the ZR skid until I can find used arms. Pain in the ars.
