Has anybody removed the black plastic air deflector which is attached to the clutch cover and lines up with the air discharge on the motor shroud? Did it hurt anything? I'm trying to find a place to attach a spare drive belt holder & belt. For the longest time, this area was the best place to put the spare. Any ideas where to put it? Thanks

I have the same issue...but I have a Trail Touring so I keep the belt in the cargo area.

Thats where we've been keeping the spare as well. Just want to find another place to put it to actually be able to use the rear seat compartment..

Has that really been a problem? I haven't heard of one single problem with the 550 fans in my area...

Yes, its a big problem. I don't think Polaris is addressing it well.

I own three 550 sleds and have lost engines in two of them.

I've got an 02' Classic 550 and it has 9000 miles on the original engine. It just depends on how you maintain your equipment guys.

I tucked a belt into the space in front of the right footwell. Folded it into a U shape, tucked it down in there. Fits fine. I think I may have used a small shock cord around it.

By the way, my 2003 Trail Touring has 2400 trouble free miles. Fits my needs just fine.

Bullshit....my 02 runs great, my 05 has burned down twice. They are maintained exactly the same. Polaris won't admit they screwed up the 04 and 05 engine and the local dealer is an ass. The only way I found to corret the problem was on HCS.

I keep the belt AND a tow strap in my cargo area.

My 2003 550 trail tour has just burned up for the THIRD time. Twice it's been rebuilt by a Polaris dealer and right now the motor is in a box. First time was at 1k miles, second time was at 2k miles, now I have 2.9k miles. All three times it went while only going 40-45 mph maybe 15 mins. into our ride. IMO this Polaris motor is the biggest POS there is. cussing.gif NO.... how it was treated/maintained was NOT the issue. It was seasoned prepped before and after winter BY THE DEALER!
