I'm looking at buying and wondering how fast they really are, in real speed and whether the speed you're getting is stock or after clutching. I heard they needed clutching to get moving. Everyone knows they are quick and beat most sleds to 100, so I'm only wanting to know about real world speed. If you're cruising down the lake and open it up to get going wide open down a long lake., which sleds are passing you and which ones do you catch or pass by. I'm wondering about top end, wound out. GPS only or which sleds pass or get passed. Thanks to those who can reply honestly!

I was riding down my lake and got up to 112 on gps. It was glare ice, so conditions were perfect. I have never encountered any sleds passing me on the lake... except for one god damb mach... wall.gif ... but it was close.
revrider2
I have been beaten by an F-7, a buddy of mine. The only thing with mine is one day it won't do 90 and the next day the speedo says 108?
DooSkiX
They need clutching, oil pump and jetting are fat stock. Clean everything up they run OK top end, not the fastest but respectable for a 800 twin, they are very quick however.
YellowXP800
Mine, with 4000 miles, Cudney clutching, 26 top gear, 147 studs, will do 119 on speedo across hardpack lake.
Gets there in no time as well. Very Happy luxhello.gif
LuckyMe
105 mph on gps. Which is 168 km gps. Which is 188 km on speedo.
LuckyMe
sled is stock except jetted down 460s. The clutching seems to be off on the top because after 165 km the tach falls hard to 7800 rpm.
CHEATER-CHEATER
I tried a 800r renagade dealer demo last weekend and ran 120 on speedo and 108 on radar on a very hard packed lake.I raced an apex and pulled 3-4 lengths out of the hole and it took about a mile to creep by me and not pull away.
AllMakesRider
mine stock..no mods..does 100(gps) digital speedo says 110mph.

sleds i have beaten from start to dead top end...NONE.

Even with a 2001 mxz 800

Passed easily by 1998 xcr 800

passed easily by '03 ZR900

sleds I have beaten in 1000 feet:

'03 ZR9(by 3 sleds)

2001 mxz 800(1 sled length).

heres the proof:

as with any sled, car,atv motorcycle....you will always have some that out perform the rest of the same vehicle. Yes, some XP8's really go...but for the most part....well...
the same will be with the new POO800 some will go realy really well comparted to the others.

I have a bone stock 800xp in the x package, 120" From a dead stop, I ahve beaten mach z 1000, firecats 7,8,and f1000, polaris dragon an 08, and 03,06 and many other ptek 800 ho, after about 1000 feet, the mach z's pass, a few of the firecats have passed or are coming on very, very strong, if we ran longer, I think everything would pass me! These xp's just out excelerate most sleds, then they hit a wall @ 100 mph! Mine ran 121 on speedometer, so maybe around 110ish real speed?? My buddy has an 08 xp adrenaline 1 inch track, clutched it, bullseyes etc. and a few other things, his sled and mine are dead even every where, in my opinion those mods do nothing!

and i agree. from what i hear and have been told personally..the mods for the xp8(clutch kits etc) are a waste o money.

haha bone stock with a bigbore kit maybe. I tell ppl my sleds are stock all the time grinning-smiley-023.gif. There is no way a Rev XP will run 107 mph in 1300 feet unless its downhill, or not "bone stock"
Brandon600sdi
Hogan is right, a bit of weight to the clutch helps alot!

This weekend we were out racing me and my dad both have 800 x packages short track he has a cudney cluctch kit with 21.3 weights and 26 top gear and 136 studs, I am bock stock with the same amount of studs in the same pattern. We were racing on glare ice roughly 1200 feet, Every time we raced I won if he got out of the hole first within 660 feet I would go by him by two lengths in the mid range then we would hold, my SPEEDO was showing 104 mph in that distance. Then I raced another xp 800 short track who has the same set up as my dad and the result was the same, then we brought out our 06 mach z with a dalton clutch kit and 144 studs the mach z would eat my xp in 660 feet and across the lake (1200') Even if I jumped him out of the hole my dad would go by within 400 feet or so on the mach me and my dad are within five pounds of each other weight wise, as for f7's I have yet raced an f7 that has beat me two of our buddys have real good working f7's if they get me out the hole which they usually dont but when they do I walk by within 660 feet. As for top speed first day out on a plowed road with no studs long road slightly down hill the speedo read 121 mph and my dads showed 122mph not sure what this would be on a gps.

120 speedo was 112 GPS for me.

I think I may have one of the most important items for top speed on an XPx... a medium windshield to tuck behind.

114 on radar on a snow strip with no studs. 126 on speedo.

Just ripped across the local lake here yesterday, let everyone take off before me, then I pinned it, showed 120mph on speedo (buddies gps said he was doing 105mph and I passed him like he was standing still...) only sled I didn't beat was 05 Mach Z, but I was gaining on him (although I don't think he had the throttle pinned...). Sleds in the race, 2 07 600HO SDI's, 1 07 800 HO Powertech, 1 05 Mach Z, 1 08 XP 500ss, 1 0? 600 Sabrecat, and me, was fun, thought my helmet was going to fly off...
Spelling Wizz
I know we're talkin about 800's and stuff, but my 600SDI has gotten up 95 on a relatively hard packed lake. I would love to race an 800.

The stock secondary wouldn't stop with the belt deflection in the same spot unless it was wrapped around a tree! Heck I'm lucky to just keep the deflection adjuster in the clutch and not blowing holes in the side panel.

The only thing more disapointing than this sled is the crappy dealer I bought it from! Hell even the shizzy cover fell apart!

Yesterday in van buren maine, temps were 25 degrees, snow just starting to set up,it was 6pm but the snow was lose and rough in the middle and smooth for part of the outside of trail,if you were ducking behind shield to avoid getting hit w/branches,cause the far right side was the hardest part of road, now this was going up and down the van buren road coming into van buren from madawaska on its 81 and i finally saw 108 on my garmin gps,i think recall was like 114,rpms were 8280 digital, cudney kit,23.5 in pins, yellow primary, red spring in sec. and his 44 progressive helix, and yes 26 top gear, the best speed to date was 110 gps on rough ice/snow,so this was good for trail riding speeds, with med. windshield mirrors, rear bag,126 studs down the middle,5.7 skis w/dule carbides,6" in middle and stock in the outside, big boy rear springs, sprung up high,so some go ok,and some dont,oh ya,sense my oil has been turned down,it now goes 270 miles before my light comes on,and even running wfo i still get 12 mpg.
busted
Hey REVRIDER2, take the belt adjuster off, remove the "O" ring and cut the slots out on 2 of the sides. You can do it with a dremel tool or even hack saw. This completely fixes the problem. It will not fall off or loosen again.

Coming off a Cat it is funny how so many things were "copied" on this sled from Cat. Including the helix, and plastic belt deflector. Whats really funny is that Cat go rid of the plastic deflector because it backed out!

After this year with this thing I really wish I'd bought the crossfire. I was on the fence and fell for the hype. Although reading this thread I have to wonder if my pos is the direct reflection of a pizz por set up from the crappy dealer that I dropped my 10.7k at. If I gain the patience back to touch it with anything but a hammer I may try this, thanks.

No need to cut it, use a slot screwdriver to pop it open, but first check the o-ring, mine was twisted, used a slot screwdriver (flat) and it opened up no problems.

Be careful putting the adjuster back in, it seems to want to self thread, just be patient, make sure it's seated right, and it'll go right in (I know, it happened to me!).

Good luck.

Here is some real facts. My Dad and I ordered 2 xp800 x snow check same dealer, sale order form, set up the same, excpoet his had igher windshield. I rode mine and felt it was awesome as skis always in air. Once broke in, we did many side by side drags on hardpack N wi roads/trails to 100 area. He would always pull me by several sled lengths. I ahve 65# on him and thought that was why, as felt was very weight senesitive.

We rode for a week togther fast trail riding and I was always 3 notches lower than him in fuel on the gauge. 2-3 gallons more out of 10. I also used so much oil as I ran out ina 250 mile run and he was about half full.

I took it to the dealer, who said oil cables and throttle cables needed adjusted. My carbs were not opening all the way, and oil coming on b4 the gas. Got my sled back and other than my dad had 800 more miles on his belt than I due to more time riding while I had to go back to work, I would then pull him from the hole to 100. I got a new sled back performance wise.

I would have never ever knwon this if we did not have clone sleds and comapre over many days. Take your sled back to the dealer if fuel mileage is poor, oil use high, or perforamnce lacks. Without an apple to compar to, I never dreamed I had an issue though.
