I put the zip tie governor override on the mini z 2 years ago. It just started making a horrible rapping noise like it blew a ring. I put a wrench on the end of the clutch to rock the piston up and down. The piston seems to be gliding smoothly from the sound.There is some resistance and a little clunk noise like something is loose inside.My guess is possibly the governor gear or arm is broke. Any ideas and or fixing advice? Thanks in advance.

Could be several things, I would defiantly pull the engine out, simple enough to pop off the side cover and/or head to look around, Sounds like damage is minimal at this point, if something locks up at speed, you risk losing the entire engine. Might want to just pull off the valve cover first, make sure everything is tight and lash is set right.

Seems to be a brass screw on flywheel that holds a metal covered plastic piece down that is hitting.It is rubbing up against a part that must be a power generating part. When I spin motor around this seems to be only point of resistance. Why would that screw suddenly have zero clearance? Thanks for the reply!

Please listen to this carefully, I of course am not looking at your part so am not sure we are talking the same thing here. The flywheel has a part called the magnet, it is as wide as the wheel and roughly 2 in long. It has a metal center with plastic around it. it is held in place by a brass philps head screw in the center, also should have some epoxy underneath. IF, that is the screw you are talking about and it is backing out, DO NOT USE THAT FLYWHEEL. Be sure that the screw is actually backing out, it sometimes happens that the coil, which is bolted to the engine, and has the plug wire on it, slips down and rubs the magnet causing scrape marks on it.
This is very important, the kart world has had people killed by blown flywheels. These engines are made to be run with the Gov. on it. Rasing the rpms put much more force on parts in this case centrifugal. If the magnet gets loose, it will jam against the housing and most likely the wheel will expload. The blower housing will not contain those parts.
We build alot of engines, anything modified gets a billit flywheel, there not that expensive, especially concidering what you have to loose. ARC racing makes a very good Honda wheel www.arcracing.com. We will not even run engines on the dyno if other then stock, they don't have a billet wheel.

Good news is that the flywheel magnet is not hitting,the motor just hangs up a little each revolution at that exact spot. I used a piece of paper which moved around freely to check for clearance at all points. Bad news is its something else. Thanks for the safety tip on the flywheel, I really like my son!
