I just bought my first SkiDoo and I could use some help getting it going. The sleds is a 2001 600 Grand Touring in visually perfect shape. I bought it from a freind who hasn't riden or started it in 3 years he bought it new and it has 1100 miles. He assures me that it ran when he put it away and won't take any money until I get it running again. I have a couple of questions. First is there a way to clean the carbs in place or do they need to be removed? I don't even want to turn it over until I'm sure they aren't gunked up. I've read too many horror stories about damage becuase of dirty carbs. Second besides a new battery what else should I be looking for? The compression is ~130 in both cylinders and the engine rotates freely with the pull start. The clutches have very light oxidation on them and the gas tank is empty. The Carbs are TM40's.
If it's sat for 3 years, chances are the crank bearings have gotten some rust on them, unless the previous owner fogged the motor. You'll have to remove the carbs to clean them,,,, floatbowls, mains, pilots, airscrews, slides all will need to come out, all passageways will need some carb cleaner and air pressure to be certain everythings open.
