im switching and buying a assault that thing is sweet
Iwannagofast
yeah looks like an awesome sled i just wish we got more snow around me to justify the 2.125 track.
F7 Possum
I want one to, I am just trying to figure out how much up stairs they got. I heard that they will only go 85MPH, prolly BS, but I can't seem to find any topics about it on here only at Poo's website.

Polaris hasn't even built it yet and everyone is already talking about top end speed again! Wrong sled bud, buy a D8 sp and save yourself some grief.
F7 Possum
I don't care about top end but I would like it to go around 100 for an 800.

It's a MOUNTAIN sled, do not buy it if you want to go 100 mph!
hammerdown_08
i could care less abought how fast it goes as long as it gets there fast i want it cause it has alot of good compontes

I just traded my rtx for one this morning.
BigBoreManiac
Are there any prototypes out there for testing? Has anyone ridden one?

I jumped at the hype of the XP800 SumitX146. It was not at all pleasing and I dumped it at 265 miles for a Dragon 155. I'd like to think that the Assault has the classic POO IQ feel.

Does anyone know?
shortstop20
You will never touch 100 MPH on any 144"+ mountain sled.

I have driven the 800 rmk dragon and it tops out at about that 85 mark but i imagine you could change gearing.

i was talking to a polaris mechanic, this weekend, and he was saying that by 2010 every part of the sled is goin to be different

What's your point? i heard the same thing.I welcome the young peoples input.

Snow where back off a little you seem to get great joy slaming people!!

Go riding and relax!

so what if every part is different, I will buy that one then. I would be pissed if they didn't change something.
Iwannagofast
heard polaris is going to have a 1.375 lug option for the assault in the fall. making the sled that much more tempting for me now.
PolarisInd
Yes that is correct, Polaris will be offering a 1.375 track for the 146" Assault this coming fall/winter. Availability/timing is unknown at this time.

rolleyes.gif I KNOW DonoBBD on his M6 hit over 100mph with a A20 track at 141" long. I've personally hit 96mph with mine!!!
orange
ain't no way in hell a m6 is going to go 100mph.
BigBoreManiac
So, just where can somebody see and touch one of these Assaults in the Northeast? The videos and propaganda sure make them look real appealing, lot more fun than the 700 Dragon 155 that I have now. But I definitely don't want to reDOO the XP mistake.

i really like the assult also,

but there are a few things i don't like that will keep me on a normal RMK

1) the rails are not tipped up, the normal rmks are and make trail riding a lot better

2) Walker airs - nothing more to say, those shocks are bad and cost to much to rebuild

I do love the color and the mat finsh. and the 800

ill second that and add to it

3) odd track length means very spendy track if you want to switch
4) wide front end on a long track sled
5) those new bars there putting on them suck balls, and the stupid looking plastic hooks are GAY

I have ridden the 08 dragon RMK 800 as well and it tops out about 85-86 mph. I am looking at buying an assault as well and am trying to figure out what to do with track and gearing as i would like to have top speed around the 100mph mark. I ride mainly field sin saskatchewan but have some pretty deep powder a lot of the time so not too sure what to do. I bought an '07 600 carbed switchback this past fall and loved the sled, 144" is perfect lenght, just needs a bigger lug as 1.25 ain't enough, I just miss the torgue of my 800zr. I also considered the 800 shift but that will be geared the same anyway. All I know is the 136" sleds are too short for riding around here, they aren't much better than a trail sled, it's nice to see cat and yamaha realizing that with the new crossfire length and nytro xtx, but i am not a yamaha fan and the x-fire's don't handle or look as sweet as the new polaris'*(Never thought I would say that,Been a Cat fan forever!!) Any other ideas on top speed or gearing changes?

Go figure! There is a showing in Barrie Ontario and the next stop is Winnepeg Manitoba. 905 miles between stops and I am stuck in the middle. Damn!!!!!

A friend of mine drove the Assault this weekend at a Polaris Scandinavia sales meeting. He said that it was geared low, the Poo guys told him it was geared for 80Mph at 1:1 clutch ratio, which would mean about 19/45 i guess.
All and all, my pal told me, its an awsome sled but it needs som clutching and some shock revalving, but which sled dont?

I get to ride the assault in 2 weeks, cant wait!!

Looks like we're in the same boat. My 07, 600 CFI Switchback with 1 1/2" track topped out at 100mph before the reflash. Now I'm at 96 mph. Still not bad for bigger lug and 144 skid. I'm thinking of snowchecking the 800 Shift RMK and changing the track to ! 1/2" and using the Switchback gearing. That should bring the top end up. My bro-in-law's 900 switchback does 110+mph. It's retarded fast, and he hasn't had any issues with the 900 w/3000+ miles.

ok guys everyone has to look at what this sled was built for. this is not a rmk and not a saw deep powder/hillclimb sled. this is a sled made to jump and take abuse. the wide front end help landing jumps, the non tippy rails are stronger and are more consitant on throw angle when jumping. also this new track length will probably be the new 144 in 2010 with the new chassis. the shock are good shocks i think. a big reason people did not liek them was becasue they are not adjustible, well these one are. also rebuild it depend on where you go. these are some of the easiest shocks to rebuild, takes almsot no time at all. as for the bars, id agree i dont like them, they should have stayed with the rise block and straight bars.
