What are your opinions about switching oil brands without draining the tank down and re-bleeding the system. I am out of Cat APV Synthetic but have a couple of litres of Ipone Synthetic that I run in my other sled sitting on the shelf. Did a big ride yesterday and can't get the APV because the dealer is closed and I want to ride tomorrow. What do you think about pooring it in and ride? Has anyone done the this with bad results? I heard some say that years ago two oils mixed could gell and cause the obvious damage. Tell me what you think.

[I have mixed with no ill effects. The oil light came on an I added a new brand I wanted to try. No problems. Just me though. Maybe someone else has a different opinion.

I've switched oil brands on several sleds, I try mixing the different oils in a small container to see if they mix ok, or seperate after sitting .I have switched from Cat Syn. APV oil to Shell Ultra syntentic on my 2000 Thundercat, 2003 and 2005 F 7 2005 Sabercat 500 and now my 2008 F6, with no problems or engine failures.

I have mixed Cat oil and Ipone with no trouble

Have heard that amsoil is a good replacement. Some say it outperforms cats oil. But for now I've stuck with the APV oil. If you switch stick with whatever you switch to. Maybe ask your dealer what they think.

That's exactly what I have done as well. Even put the container in the freezer to see if low temps would effect the mix. No issues. I usually run the Shell synthetic and tried Ipone once. They mixed well. I will never run anything but the Shell synthetic ever again.

I've switched from AC APV to Castrol Syn. snowmobile oil. It runs better then the APV oil.

Any good synthetic oil will work fine (note: amsoil is not one I have seen too many stuck APV's and other problems to reccomend amsoil in a weedeater)

Have ran Amsoil a long time with no issues. Use the correct series for your sled and correct oil use setting, = no issues. IMHO

I've used amsoil forever and have had no problems

I dump anything that says it is injector oil in my old firecat and no problems yet. summer_sucks.gif
