Just got this 98 formula 3 700. It is burning headlights when reving it up. I have the wires apart on the hand warmers as well cause a few were melted. I hooked up a test light to the had warmers and that is getting to much power when you rev it up same with the head lights. ALL other lights tail light and dash lights are fine dont get brighter when reving. Just wonder if you think this would be a voltage regulator or something else. I would think if the regulator is F**Ked all the lights everywhere would be burning to.......... Any one have any input or know of this problem??
Thanks Darrell

I would say you need a regulator. I've seen dash lights survive a bad regulator before.

I tryed unpluging the regulator and running the sled. Is it normal for the gauges to still work and lights for the gauges to still go on and get brighter when reving it up?

You can run it but not for long, you just end up with more problems than what you started with, change the regulator and things will be fine.

I understand that it will mess things up . But my question was if i unplug the regulator should the gauges and gauge lights still come on??? Or do you think something is shorted out befor the regulator?
Thanks Darrell

If you unplug the regulator your lights will still come on. The regulator doesn't do anything untill you rev up the motor, then it holds the voltage down to around 12 volts. So yes your lights will still be dimmer at idle and get brighter as you rev it up. With out the regulator the voltage will continue to increase as you rev it up untill you burn out the lights, hand warmers ect.

Cool thanks for the info on that question Glass racing.Wasnt sure if it was suposta or not.
Well i pulled the motor today and ripped all the wiring apart for the whole sled. I found 2 wires that were rubbed threw . Not sure if they were touching each other or on the belly pan. They were towards the PTO side under motor. So i re taped everything and put the motor back in and the old voltage regulator. Started it up now everything seems to be fine and all lights are back to normal.
Hopefully its not the regulator just having a good day.

I've had to pull the motors out of both of our Mach's to repair the wiring, I'm sure you fixed your problem.

Well im thinking the regulator had a blonde moment. Cause i put bulbs in and reved it up and they were getting bright again when i started today. Then it kinda flashed a bit then it was fine. Not getting bright. Shut it off. Then started it and it was getting bright again. urrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr must be the Regulator. Hope if i buy it that it is the problem since one is 125$ new here.
