Well, I figured some may want this info, as of Midnight, southern essex county (Lunenburg) we have 2 inches of new snow and it has changed over to light rain, temp is 32.8F. Latest radar loop indicates this storm will lull soon, so we will have a net gain by morning. I will update then as well foryou, but so far we are in the Plus zone for this storm, and my guess is the further north you go the better it is.

Greta news. Now if we can hand on rest of today, hopefully some colder air will return, with more snow.

Update: as of 8:30 AM, allprecip has stopped, we have a wet slushy inch left on the ground from yesterdays light snow, its warmed to 34.7F, and the snow in the pines is dripping hard. They are saying rain later today changing to snow late, possibly several inches accumulation.

Loads of people out there riding today!!!!! Nearly 4pm EST and it's been pouring in IP since before 2pm.
Riding in the pouring rain? Those sledders should have taken the day off and spent the afternoon in the bar instead of destroying the trails.

I was amazed myself,..I had one sled go by the house today early though,..but around 1PM while it was pouring, I saw many at gas stations filling up, groups of 5-6. What a miserable ride to boot, not to mention the trails are just slop right now, a sled going down them will wash the snow off like nothing. I just checked the trail on my road, its very mushy but still has a great base if left alone.

We just came in from the pouring rain and we met several sleds near Canaan. I thought we were the only ones crazy enough to ride in that kind of weather. Guess not!

I agree 100% especially since the weather is supposed to get colder for quite a while after this system.
Hopefully for those of us that head out next week in the cooler temps trails wont be destroyed..
We are going to Lyndonville next week.

Rest assured that the groomers from Lyndonville will have the trails mint as they have all year long!

So how much snow loss occured in the NEK? Do you think things will still be decent after the groomers get a chance to go through again?

Mar 9 2008, 06:11 AM
Well, here in souther esses county, we did not get the snow that was predicted, we did have about 1.2 inches of havy rain yesterday, and now temps are near 20F, its going to be a bumpy icebox out there for a while. Im headed south to give this a chance to heal up, hopefully.

Serbiesnow - thanks for the report. Does it seem like a lot of snow was lost or is there still 3 feet or so on the ground? Thanks!

Have lost 6" at the measuring stake. Not quite sure what was lost on the trails. Should still have a decent base left in most areas.
serbiesnow
Mar 9 2008, 07:45 AM
Yes, the base has survived, but it needs to be groomed, and we need some powder for lube. I would say I have lost 6-8 inches total, trails and snow in the woods. Overall, since peak we have lost 1-2 feet in the woods, and a foot give er take a few inches on the trails, of coarse there are much thinner spots on some trails with heavy traffic that are lower elevation, like burke, and even 102 in sections.

Camp-D,..I think we have been spoiled royally this year,..I cant remember a year when the trails were open from opening day till ....now,..but here we have it, ALSO,.. I do remember back in the late 90's, and early 2000's when all the trails were trashed all of the time, I mean for real bullwhip riddin,..(glad I was young back then

) anyways, it looks like we may ride for much longer,..the base is bulletproof,. all we need is a few 'flurries' every night,..I have gone back to Ct for a bit,. ( I found out I have spent not more than 15 days in CT since the VT deer season started!!!!),..so you know I love it up there,..hopefully my new buisness will work up there and I can move there permanently,..but even if it doesnt,..Ive had one of the best years snowmobiling in a looooooong time!! Hope you have as well!! Im hoping for one more week iffin the snow flies,..but if not,..well,.... Its ATV season after april 30th,..

Your right about opening day, its been years since we have been able to ride and I put on over a 100 miles in the storm, that was a blast as it got the itch out of my the thumb right from the start. I'm gona try to get 1 more midweek trip in as my work has realy picked up and gona have to steal time (cough! cough!). I know Lunenburg has its maple sugaring festible the weekend of the 22nd may try to hit that.
