I had just bought an 01 srx 700 and was driving it home for the first time and wouldnt yah no it i get a mile from where i bought it and it blows up. only the two pistons are blown, the flywheel side piston and the one beside it...but boy are they blown, it was clearly pre-igniton because the sand blasting effect was concealed to the exauhst port only. i have no clue as to why it blew up it has 8000 km on it, it could be dirt in the carb i have no idea. my main concern though is wether or not i could have a band crank? i no crank issues were not common to theses sleds only the 98's but i was wondering wether or not these srx's have the type of oil seal (crank seal) that requires the crank to be split for removal? im pretty shure they dont but i just need to be certain. i no that when i rebuild it it should be fairly reliable because i no these sleds were. if any one has any info thatd be greatly appreciated.

If it was the mag side and center pistons that went then it could be the crank seal on the mag side gone out but you should also take the carbs apart and check the condition of them as you may very well have dirty main jets. The crank does not have to be split to change the seals they slide on the ends, only the cases need to be split. You're right in figuring that once the engine is rebuilt you should have a very reliable sled as to my knowledge there are no crank issues with them.

It could be dirty pilot jets as well.

Does the sled have BR9ECS spark plugs in it.

How old was the gas........was it 91 octane?

After 1 mile it blew up, Sounds like it blew up before and the owner just put it back togther and was hoping for a hail mary. I would be asking for my money back.

oh i got my money back...but then i bought it back for a 1000 bucks and im rebuilding it right now. i have the block out and everything and the crank out and the seals i think look a little worn so im replacing them, but only two pistons blew and they wer lean but one oil line was also not connected sooo it s little confusing.

and yah i does have BR9ECS plugs

One of the oil lines was left open?It must have been pumping oil into the belly pan.If the crank seals don't look to have any pieces missing or obvious signs of where the air would be sucking by then you should most definitely take the carbs completely apart and blow all the jet passages out as well as the fuel screws to make sure you don't end up blowing a piston again. If you need a pic as to where the oil lines go you should be able to tell from the microfiche link below but just in case there's 2 outlets from the pump one goes to the base and the other to the fuel pump.Hope this helps.

If your looking for a place to buy your parts, unless you've got a local dealer that gives you a decent discount,I'd recommend Port Yamaha, here's the link to their site http://www.portyamaha.com/.They have a discount on their parts on the microfiche and the prices are cheaper.
