2009 Polaris 600 Shift CAN $7999 USA$6999
2009 dragon 800 164 CAN$12899 USA$11199
2009 Switchback 600 CAN$11399 USA$9,199

All the prices are cheaper on the US side of the border, i just choose a few random ones to use as an example.

Why can't they take advantage of this, wouldn't it be sweet if a company like skidoo or Polaris ran an ad campaign stating that they are the only company that is offering the same price on sleds on both sides of the border, i think it would want to buy that brands sled a little more.

Why are the screwing us over when they could be gaining Canadian market share?

Jeeeez

Well the positive thing here is that the the MSRP's have all dropped in Canada this year. The Shift is $1000 less then last year. Not at par, but getting closer.

Yup getting close
One thing you have to include is Canadians especially Ontario make more money on average per hour then a person in the states

We also have more demand for sleds up here, which is the old supply and demand formula

WE love Tech and this drives prices up an up until the average person is out of luck, look at china you have RICH and the rest of them
We all do it see something cheaper yet buy the higher end model cause it comes with this or that
yet you really don't need it

Power seats/ heated Seats come on give me a break

I don't think you'll see Pol getting any closer to US prices than that. They'll want a cushon in case our cdn $$ drop fast!

Got to give them credit thou for going that close. If I was buying new that's where I'd be shopping!

this problem is not at all unique to Polaris, almost every company that deals with currency risk simply buys a financial hedge, that locks in their exchange rates for a defined period (usually a fiscal year). Polaris could do it too (and likely are) but they still choose to gouge Canadians on prices by 15%.

I don't think that they or any of the other manu's deserve any credit in this area.

The only way companies listen is when people refuse to buy their products at those prices....If you want the latest and greatest first you'll pay the most.If you wait the price will come down... Supply and demand, let your dollars do the talking......
Momorider
Who pays MSRP? I suspect because the US dollar is so week that the US MSRP has gone up. But that would go against the supply and demand theory. Back in the day I would look at the US MSRP and try and get that when I was bartering with the dealers and usually got it. This was when there was still a 13% federal excise tax built into the price.

Not true. The average working American has much more disposable income (which is really all that matters when it comes to spending), when you consider their taxation situation.

Also, more sleds are sold in the U.S. than in Canada.

A buddy bought a new IQ up here (yeah, I know, why would you.....) and the manufacturer instructed the Canadian dealer to give him the U.S. price. He would have otherwise bought it in the U.S., so Polaris was protecting their Canadian dealer network. Smart.

BRP on the other hand, are an absolutely radical, extreme bunch of assholes when it comes to Canadians buying in the U.S.

Well, yes, but there are 10 times as many people there too.

Well they do deserve some credit as they seem to be the only company with any interest in keeping the market price fair-er!
Although I do see Yam prices starting to show more parity!
As pointed out above Bomb as usual "BRP on the other hand, are an absolutely radical, extreme bunch of assholes" couldn't have said it any better myself biggrin.gif
