Does anyone else have any problems when you bring the sled home, park it in the garage, and smelling up the garage? After I'm out riding, get home, park the sled, it totally stinks up my garage, which also stinks up the house because I have a attached garage. The smell is that mixture of gas oil smell that continually fills up the air box.

I tried to change the filter, etc. but it has made no difference. It seems to me when shutting down the smell is coming out of the breather line that feeds into the top of the air box. I also notice this on the trail when I shut off the machine and put my gloves and/or helmet above me steering column where the vents come out the top of the hood. Not only does my gloves and helmet get warm, they also stink like that oil/gas mixture when I put them back on.

The smell goes away when the sled cools down. Any thoughts on this out there?

Uh ohh,

Mine does the same thing, maybe not as bad as you decribed but when I walk up to while riding there is a hint of gas smell and I to have wondered why.
I notice when it is sitting in the garage there is a gas smell hovering around. I have cleaned the foam filter and when I did my last oil change (400 miles ago) I changed it as talked about on polarisfiles. I only filled it to the low line and that seems to help.
It has been sitting for a couple days and has not been started, I will check tonight and see if I can still smell it or if its like you described only when riding or after it has been parked.

Sounds to me like the fuel is being vaporized as it should. Yours seems to be more than normal. Has the CEL been on at all. Coolant temp steady around 155-160? Wondering if you are not getting into closed loop operation(richer mode).

How full is the gas tank? I notice that I smell gas riding till I use a gallon or so. I think it splashes around, and flows out the overflow tube. Do you fill up before you park it, or tip the sled on it's side? Some people I know like to tip it, and spin the track to release built up snow. Could be pouring gas into the overflow when the sled is tipped.

It smells whether it is full of gas or not. I would agree with the comment that it is vaporizing gas etc. and the smell is coming through the airbox from the breather tube. You can actually see the vapor coming out of it until it is cooled down. However, I don't think it should smell up the entire garage and house of the smell of burnt gas/oil etc.

Yes, it is generally running at 150 - 160. It does fluctuate sometimes which I don't understand. This improvement came after they changed the sensor. The oil raising issue is a little better with the oil level being set about 1 inch below the low add line. However, I still get an enormous amount of oil/gas in my airbox from the large amount of vapor coming out of that breather tube. I have to clean the airbox out after every 200 miles or so. All the ribs in the bottom of it will be full of gas/oil.

I called Polaris again yesterday, but have not heard anything again. I'm loosing faith quickly that Polaris gives a damn about me. In fact, I just wish the sled would burn down so they would realize it is not good for a machine to run with 17% gas in the oil. (Had this tested 3 times after approx 250 miles of running each time). Someone explain to me how long those cylinders are going to last even with the synsetic oil.

This whole gas in the oil thing was my biggest concern when deciding to buy this sled. It still is after 1400 miles. Since my last oil change the level hasnt seemed to climb but the oil tank & filter reek like gas.
Dont get me wrong so far this has been a great machine and has impressed me but this is the one area I am concerned.
Oh and my tempatures stay between 150 & 160 at all times.

Do these sleds have a PCV vlave, like a car? If it does, I wonder if that could be an issue. That system is designed to get flow from the bottem end, and bring it back through the carbs, and out the tailpipe. If it's blocked somehow, could it cause issues like this?

A look at the troubleshooting section of an automotive service manual might give a clue, it's not that much different.

No, this is a dry sump engine.
The oil and blowby is removed from the engine by that sump pump.
The blow by then exits from the top of the oil tank to the air filter box.
These sleds are fuel injected and if you ride them before you let the engine warm ALL of the way up they will spray way too much fuel which will wash past the rings and wind up on your air filter which you will smell after a the next few rides

I had a gas leak and that really stunk up the garage, still could not smell in the house though. Check your door seals maybe, that could be bad news.
As for the sled smelling that strong, I would be nervous, I can't say any of mine are noticible at all. With fuel vapor that strong, in an enclosed garage, well it would not be in the garage for long...
