My local dealer has a new 550 classic leftover. I'm considering buying it for my wife. Any comments (good or bad) would be appreciated. She doesn't want to go fast, just wants comfort, electric start, and reverse. My only concern is how well the 500 fan holds up.... especially after what I've read here.

Thanks!

550 fans have been very reliable for me.

Bought an 05' 550 classic leftover for my wife 2 seasons ago. She has logged 1400 miles so far with no problems whatsoever. The sled only tops out around 65-70 mph, so if going fast isn't a concern, then I'd say buy it. She loves the electric start and reverse and the sled is rather comfortable to ride as well. I paid $4600. for her's in Sept 05' as a leftover. Hopefully your dealer has a nice price for you.

I have an '04 Trail Classic (550 fan) with almost 5000 miles on it. I have it serviced prior to each season and have never had problems. I recently heard a knocking noise but the sled's engine seems to run fine. It is at the guy's house who services it right now and I haven't heard what the knocking sound is. I think it might be the belt as the original is still on. My husband has an '04 Super Sport (550 fan) with the same mileage and he has no problems. His sled is jetted, mine is not. His goes a bit faster than mine, but mine goes plenty fast enough - 60 or so. I like the comfortable ride of my sled, the PERC, electric start and mirrors. Good luck.

I have a 550 fan sport touring almost 9000 miles, 2003, belt and plugs is all that has been done to it, very good on gas
