Looking for any problems on high mileage Z1's, as I'm thinking about getting a Turbo next year. and I am trying to get a feel for the durability of this hi perf motor.

I've got 4600 on my EB 07. Bought it last Feb with 400 dealer miles. Only real problem was a leak in the D Drive. Last trip ck eng lite was flashing a code for the ISC valve. Haven't looked at that yet. No oil usage.
mustang00
3184 miles as of Sunday...had a couple of check engine codes supposed to be oxy sensor...my own fault i think cause i wasn't letting it run a minute b4 shutting down..I love this sled can do 200miles a day and not an ache in my old body...the only thing is a lack of speed which the turbo should solve.

Almost 2000 on my EB Vince. Only problem is the plastic ends on the stabilizer bar keep moving around. (easy fix off season) Uses almost no oil. It took about 800 miles for it to loosen up and feel more power. I too can ride the twin spar for more miles than a ZR and feel no pain in my old body. The adjustable seat and bars are worth a million bucks on a long day. Everyone that rides it loves it especially the wife...lol

I have over 1000 on my 2008 in less than a month, best sled I have ever owned, cadillac style, back feels great after 200 miles. No issues, pulls hard, would buy another one for sure
MODTIM
6475 miles on each of 2 07 Z1's. Mine and my wife's. Only real problem between the pair was my sled had a TPS go bad and it took several months to correct because of poor AC diagnostics. The sled is a cadillac and have had 28 new cats since 1988. This is definitely the best machine i've ever owned. I usaually trade every two seasons between 6-8000 miles but i am keeoing this one because of several reasons. The big trunk space is a big plus on the 07. The 08 and 09 in my opinion don't have enough differences to warrant spending more to update. The sleds have always started even as cold as -31F. Fuel cons is consistant between 14-18 depending on a lot of things. The oil filter must be watched as it does like to loosen up especially after cold nights. We have ridden these sleds all over the midwest and canada and absolutely feel they are the best trail cruisers we have ever had.

A agree with all MODTIM especially the huge trunk. You can put a 2 year old in there. Not sure why they changed it when they went to the 128" skid

Yes, I have an 07 and 08 and on the 08 I changed the trunk to an 07 style. Very easy to do and well worth IMO. Not as many miles as these guys but both sleds have been great to us. Just changing my wife's hack saw track to a Rip saw track. After my 08 has the Cobra and back doesn't move around like the hack saw in certain conditons. Great power up to 80ish and great power when in the trails at all speeds just not the top end but the turbo should handle that issue. Very easy to do oil changes!

First year on the sled and I have logged about 2500 miles. No complaints, any issues I have had were small and easily repaired. The chasis is awesome and the motor is smooth and quiet. I would buy it again.
nutin but 90
Mustang & Old cat man. I put adustable clutch wieghts on mine. Gained 10 mph .Purchased from bikeman think they are STM or SMT. Put 14 grams on post end and 2 grams on tip.Had to play around with weight but love end results. I like sled but was not happy with top speed. It will run around 100 on hard pack now about 90 before

This is one awsome sled......about 1800 mi this season-----Once we got the reverse wiring to stop rubbing on the secondary clutch and sending false reverse warning----AC did an outstanding putting this together, and best riding sled they have ever made---I have bought 20 of them ( isn't time they gave me a free one). There is still a direct drive whinning over 40 mph, either I am getting use to it or it is wearing in, it seems to be getting quieter. Nothing but good to say about this sled for what it is designed for.....as long as you don't expect a snocross racer. smiley-faces7.gif

MY 08 has been ridden 13 times this year, 2776miles, yea thats over 200 miles a day average, [sorry just had to throw that in ]no problems , still on original hyfax, belt.

I got my sled Dec 15th..got 1760 on it as of 3-4-08 ...yep oil filter will get loose ...hand tight then half turn with wrench.....mine is a eb with a 121 hacksaw... junk..will replace it with a ripsaw but undecided about 128 extension...smooth ride ..gas mileage not the best for a 4 stroke ..but might be my type of ridding with an 03 F7 .....

What do you guys think will happen with gas mileage on the turbo? Will it use more gas or will it make it more efficient?

I got my first opportunity to demo a Z-1 this weekend and thought that it was good for the short time that I was on it. Real torquey on the bottom, but did not have a chance to really open it up.

The one question I had was about the seating position. I am on an F chassis Saber Cat now and when I had the seat in the lowest position I still felt like I was 12 feet in the air and almost in a standing position. I am 6 fy tall and like the Saber, the Z-1 always felt like it was top heavy and even though it was stable in the corners I always thought I was going to tip over.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I liked it alot, and know my next sled is a 4 stroke.
zoso
It will take some time in the seat to fully appreciate the twin spar. When the seat is raised to the highest position the sled actually does become less mangable on the flat twisty trails, however, it is a blessing on rough trails or as the day grows long and you want to relieve your fatigue. This chasis is very stable and I have no ski lift or the feeling the sled will tip even when I ride about 35-40 mph and do not even lean on the corners, it only requires alot of rider input when you are pushing it. Once you get used to the sled you will never want to sit low and back on a sled again.

Well said......my only other comment is that it isn't quite as much "Fun" to ride.....until you bring it up to 50 or 60 on logging roads.
zoso
Funny you say that it is not as much "fun" to ride. I said the exact same thing about it when I first got it. The reason I said that was it is just so easy to ride if you want to relax out there. I found cruising on the trails to be so effortless that I did not feel as though I was "riding" but more like I was driving. The more comfortable I became with the sled the more I was riding hard and the difference from the old sled is the speed at which you must start to add rider input to get it to corner is much much faster. Just got back from 150 miles and the last 25 were icey bumps, raised the seat and didn't feel a thing. I would not have come back in but I have to meet the school bus. The guy I rode with on his edge was complaining about his back and was happy to get home, lol.

That tall feeling goes away right away. And once you go back to an old Firecat you'll feel like you are on a Lowrider! That is what it feels like, and don't worry not tippy just push it and you'll love it!
Big Joe7
i have 3500 miles on mine and the only problems that i have had was a broken torsion spring in the back and my ccu half comes unpluged and on the second time it ran my batery dead. i love it and want to buy mcxpress' turbo kit just so i can kill cats turbo. i love the way it handdles.

It'll be more efficient at lower speeds as the turbo is a constant pressure system, naturally at wide open throttle it will consume more fuel than the normally aspirated model.

i got 3900 milles on my jag , and just blew the diamond drive on the weekend, bad weekend, had to be pulled by my brothers littles bomby 583, so disapointing

What happened, did the fluid leak out?

No every thing was ok, no leaks or anything, i was riding on the trails very nice long stretch, and my brother decided to pull beside at about 50mph and we punched,i held her wide open for about 30sec and it just blew.

Are you sure it's the DD and not the splines on the driveshaft that went out.

Will depend on the throttle position, It will be better in the lower speeds , But it will suck the fuel pretty quick at wot!
