I managed to blow up my t660 turbo at the end of January. It's been at the dealer since then. A tear down revealed that I melted the middle piston and scored the cylinder wall bad enough to require overboring. I've got a list of 20 parts (and sets of parts) that were ordered on Feb 7. Five of those parts did not come in until last week. I am still waiting for one more part, the crankshaft oil seal (3006-124), which is on special order. They estimate that the part will be shipped on March 18. Give it at least a week to arrive from overseas and that means that I will have waited SEVEN WEEKS for parts. That is assuming that it is ready when they say it will be.
My dealer is doing everything they can, but Arctic Cat simply does not have the part. I went to the dealer yesterday wanting a number of someone at Arctic Cat to b*tch at. All they could give me was a corporate number. They say that there are no service reps or anyone they know of that I can call directly.
In my opinion this is inexcusable. Forget the fact that I am missing the best snow season in a decade. Forget the fact that it is going to cost me more than $3000 to fix this. My Machine is two years old and Arctic Cat DOES NOT HAVE PARTS!!! Is this BS common with Cat?
Does anyone know someone at Arctic Cat I can call to talk to about this?

I have never waited more than 3-4 days for parts, less if I paid for next day shipping.

If I had known it would be $3000 and more then 2 months I would have dragged it into the garage until I could find an engine, or complete donor sled. The sled is great, blowing it up is my fault. I can't blame Arctic Cat for that. But not having parts available FOR MONTHS is absolute CRAP.

660s dont break that often so replacement parts arent real common.

No they don't break that often but they should have at least a couple on hand, any luck seeing it the old suzuki swifts had the same crank seal and go to your auto dealer.
I just checked cats sight and they even give the dimensions of the seal, I wouldn't doubt it the it would be the same, it's the the side where the flywheel goes, here are the dimensions. SEAL,OIL-78X99X8

what did you do to it? turbo mods?
StevensPoint
Mar 11 2008, 07:38 PM
Yes, I installed a boost controller and FCD. The mods are not the problem. The problem is that I was not paying attention to proper octane and I was not reading my gauges. Completely my fault.
and I am paying dearly for it.
But I should not have to wait 2 months for parts.

Update on the parts. I've been calling Arctic Cat for more than a week. I get nothing but voicemail. Left 3 polite messages and no return call. Once I actually spoke to a person who listened to my story, took my information and said she would contact my dealer. 5 days later Cat contacted my dealer and told them that it is still going to be a couple weeks for the part. We already knew that. I called Cat 10+ times today trying to reach a real person - just voicemail each time. Finally left another polite message and I'm again waiting for a return call that probably won't come.
Does anyone think that this is acceptable?

No, it's not acceptable.....but unfortunately, it is common when trying to get a hold of someone in TRF. Back when I had a problem with a sled, I went through the same crap as you trying to get a hold of someone up there. Finally one day, by a fluke, I got a hold of one of the legal or marketing people, and finally got some communication going. It still wasn't great by any means, but I eventually got some results. Can't tell you how many messages I had left with no call backs. Finally this lady kept in touch with me.

I can't speak for AC, but I do work for a manufacturer of equipment that, like AC, sells only through dealers. I suspect your frustration with not being able to get through to anybody at AC is because they are set up to sell and service end users like yourself through dealerships - meaning they don't have staff dedicated to working directly with end users like yourself. When you bought your machine the dealer you bought it from made $$, and that is supposed to go to helping keeping the customer happy with good service and parts support. It is up to the dealer to make sure you get what you need and he has a direct line to the folks at AC who can get the parts. Trying to do it on your own by calling AC will usually result in frustration - though sometimes folks get lucky and make contact with somebody at the factory who can help. But that is the rare case. Your best bet is to pressure your dealer to find the parts ... maybe by looking through other dealer parts inventories. This happened to me when my dealer said he couldn't find an older part. I found it at another dealership and told him to go buy it from them or I would and charge him (he owed me the part due to damage to my machine while in storage at his store). Bottom line is your dealer is set up to provide service and parts to end users - the AC factory probably is not. They sell to dealers. Trying to short-cutting the "system" can leave you with the impression that the factory doesn't care, but in reality they simply don't have the staff to work directly with end users in cases like this. Thus they rely on dealers. Tell your dealer to find the parts even if he needs to search other dealer inventories. If he doesn't come through vent your frustration to him. You can also search other dealers for the part yourself and maybe you'll find a dealer you like better.

Tough to blame AC on this one as you did it yourself, as I did the same to mine. Leave the thing alone and ride it I guese. Again, these things are great but they do break when ridden hard and, they are not even a current model and hard to find parts for. Can you reuse your old seal? You my find that the parts supply will get worse.
On a side note, if you need an engine and you've screwed yours that bad, fall off your wallet and grab a used one that's out there for sale instead of whining! There's some cheap one's out there. This goes for a lot of you out there.

I guess it's worth whatever you can get for it but.... when I burnt mine up, I bought a used one with 500 miles on it for $700.00 No brainer, bolted on my intake, exhaust, primary etc. and I was gone. Now I think that was rediculously cheap for that motor but the thing was worth nothing without it and it was cheaper and faster than rebuilding mine. To me, if a guy can find a low miler for under $2000.00, dive on it! I've heard dealers say that they can get NOS sleds for under $6000.00 so who would pay that for just the motor?

My uncle waited 5 weeks on an updated head gasket, my dad waited 2-3 weeks on a chaincase bolt, Cat had NONE in North America. I called up my buddy who has Cat parts, he gave me one. I brought it to the dealer, 2 days later it was done.
