Well today was the first ride for the new sled. After riding the big cc two strokes my entire life I was a bit apprehensive about buying a 80 h.p four stroker. After about 25 miles I was glad I made the purchase. We rode a total of 160 miles in many different trail conditions..groomed, Nasty, powder, etc.etc. . After I got myself acclimated with the sled it was a blast. Very predictable (after I got used to the slight nose dive when you let off the gas) in the corners, great in the tight twisties, and really good in the snotty stuff. At this point the only draw back I see with the sled is the 75 mph top speed (may get a litttle faster when it gets broken in) which really doesn't bug me to much as my average trail speed is usually 45-50.
I am impressed with the 17.5 gas mileage and expect to get closer to 20 when the machine gets broken in a bit. As alway's I'm very impressed with Yamaha's fit and finish. In my opinion the skags could use a little more carbide but thats a real easy fix. Also I have to note, the engine sound is Great! I love the faint whistle sound it makes.
I'm sure the Phazer RTX isn't a sled for everybody. As a matter of fact I'm sure people will try them and absolutely hate them. I'm also sure that some people will try them and absolutely have a blast. I believe that a person considering purchasing a Phazer has to figure out what style riding they do the most. For my style this sled is a great fit.
I am going to try various suspension settings. My current set up:
Rider weight: 225 lbs.
Front Shocks: 65 psi
Rear: 14 clicks
Block: medium
Anybody thinking about picking up a Phazer should give it a try. I think you will really enjoy the sled.
