My dad just picked up a new 06 fst switchback from the dealer today. First off I would like to say WOW, this sled rocks. Awesome sled, heavy issue really isnt a problem. I love it when you get the full boost.haha
To the problem now, i was riding it around and in less than 1.5 miles around the yard I noticed the check engine light had appeared. Have no idea why..?? Looked into the manual and it said it was an ecu detection problem, must be the ecu censored something was wrong. Then it also said" see dealer right away". huh, so tomarrow morning my dad will be on his way back to the dealer to see whats wrong with it. Coolant level is good, oil level is good, and it has all the updates done. 3 year warranty.
Seemed to get pretty hot as well, i think I saw 180 degrees on the censor?? Snow conditions wre good as well. Looked inside the hood and it was pretty warm, looked at the turbo and it was orange..hmmm I dont think it's supposed to be that color right? Friend had a problem on his fst as well, he had pin holes in his coolant lines or something so the turbo turned orange and it wasnt running correctly. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Anybody have this happen to them?
Thanks for any input, Bobby

I have an 06 FST switch 2000 mi on it this year and only issue i had twice was same as yours check engine light came on. when checking machine i noticed strong smell of gas in the air filter so i cleaned air filter and foam pad in box, then took my wifes hair dryer and let it run in the air filter for at least 25 minutes on high ( hottest setting) to make sure all gas and moisture was evaporated and the next time i started the machine the light went off and stayed off. It did it a second time about 400 mi later same fix and good to the present day. I dont know if it is moisture in the filter but i think that will trigger oxygen sensor if your turno isnt getting enough air i think you have to have plenty of air to feed that turbo or the check engine light will come on. This is just an assumption by me based on what took care of my problem both times. Cant hurt your machine to try it and maybe it will save you a trip to the dealer.
Good luck Steve
both times mine did this i was riding all day in very snowy conditions lots of snow blowing around because of wind and sleds in front of me.

Oh i forgot to mention orange turbo is perfectly normal. Mine has been so hot after some sustained runs that i thought it would melt, not so it has been just fine. After more riding you will find that after you heat up the turbo performance will be enhanced. It will have more power than when you first start riding it.
Also if your sled runs at 180 for temp good for you most run at about 140 to 160 wich is in most oppinions not hot enough for a 4-stroke engine. I dont ever see 160 highest i got on the trail has been 155, so this summer a 180 thermo will be put in to enhance mileage a little bit.
Your buddys sled must have something else wrong as i am sure on this one i am correct! Orange is working properly!
Good luck Steve

Thanks for the replys, it was a fuel issue, we were told that it was water in the gas and guess what? We just put gas in the dam thing when we first picked it up.lol Got it from citgo, dam terrorist. haha. Working great now, I am so impressed with my dads sled, I WANT TO GET A TURBO FOR MY FUSE NOW.
