Well we got no snow out of the 4-6 inches we were suppose to get, and the 6 inches we had on the ground is now gone.
The next time it stops raining i am gonna put the sleds away for the year. With less than 50 miles onthe clock this year makes me second guess my passion for snowmobiling............
quickshake
Devious, if you only got 50 miles in this year and live in NEPA you ain't look to ride very hard. last 2 weekend were rideable at NEPAST with 2 weeks ago being dream conditions, flat, hard and fast. last week got beat up quick because of the texture was too fluffy but we did 150 miles, and 225 the previous week. As I write it is still snowing in NEPA with 10 inches of new on ground and 2-4 more expected. You got to trailer a little to ride anymore. Membership for trail pass is $50 for the year or $35 prior to Nov 1. You recieve a map and sticker after paying, 200 miles of trails, over a dozen beerstop / restaurants, 4 gas outlets, 2 groomers and a whole bunch of freindly people. Also working on a Ny connection but nothing routeed as of yet possible 2 to 3 years down the road.

Understood quikshake, the unfortunte thing is i own my own business and when i had alot of time to ride and trailer were poor or no snow at all.might try to get to nep this weekend.......

I'm new to the NEPA area and would like to check out the trails you are speaking about. However I think I'll wait till next year, no sense in paying $50 for a trail pass with such a short amount of the season left.
pjb153
I can't understand why people say spending 50.00 towards the end of the season is senseless. There is still plenty of riding to be had up NEP. The 50.00 we all pay to ride these trails does not only go into keeping the trails groomed. It also goes into thing the trail needs in the summer months as well. Bridges, trail widening, signs, current trail maintenance, new trail creation.

If you are looking to save 50.00 and sit home, then you are truly not into the sport. If you are in the area and plan to use the trails each year, then buy the pass and support the club. This sport is not just a “When it snows and winter conditions” type of thing. How do you think the trails are ready each season, it is allot of work and it continues all year. In fact most of the trail work is done when there is no riding.

You will drop 30.00 in fuel in the sled, another 30 to 50 at the bars each time you ride. Not trying to be a jerk, but look at the big picture and pay the one time per year fee and support your sport.

How much will you spend if you travel to NY for a weekend.. much more than 50 in gas for the truck alone.

Does this club have a web site and if so does anyone know what it is. I definetly want to look into it. Thanks

Cancel that last request I just saw the web site on quickshake's favorite riding area.
pjb153
Well for those who want to check it out.. it is www.nepsnotrails.org.

I live close and have been riding it for years. great club, great bar owners, all around good people to ride with. Like anywhere else, you get your wanna-be sno-cross riders and plain a-holes.

I will post some pics of my last two weekends.

We have been riding them modestly, two weeks ago my wife and I put on 47 miles friday night, then Saturday took my daughter out for another 45. Then this past sunday we did another 40 with my daughter.. it was real thin though.

this last storm should put the groomers back on track, but it will need a night or two to freeze up.

If I knew that I could ride every weekend for the next month I wouldn't hesitate to spend the $50 right now. Unfortunately I do not have a vehicle to tow my trailer right now and need to rely on someone else who always has an excuse as to why they don't want to go. I visit the website frequently and wish I could see the camera they have set up to see what the conditions are really like. All it says is that the trails are open but I don't really know the conditions, ie. rocks and snow cover. I know it may only sound like excuses but I am very frustrated that I can't ride when I want. I'm hoping to have a tow vehicle at my disposal next year.

Please accept my apologies, I did not mean to offend you or the club as to how much work is done to maintain the trails.

No worries, I suppose everyone has time they can go and circumstances when they can't ride. I did not mean to come down on you in particular. I was generalizing the mentality on the trails. There are allot that won't buy a pass for whatever reason. locals who rode the trails before the cub was there, people you just don't care and would rather run them and pay later if caught.

Where are you located? Maybe I can help you out with a ride or two this year yet....

Is this all private land, like a Hatfield and McCoy kinda thing? How do you keep people from just going out and riding, without paying the fifty bucks?
Snoslinger
man as a former PA resident i feel for you guys. even here in cny the season has been shitty. if it weren't for lake effect in tug hill and the ADK we'd be fucked as well. for the first time this season we actually have about the minimum required to ride out of the yard. i was in PA last weekend visiting relatives and i saw so many tracks in such little snow, and i think it was only the 1st or 2nd snow they had all year. i think if i lived in PA i would get out of snowmobiling.
pjb153
Well that is the problem.. you can't really stop someone from being on the trails.. but if they are there without the pass there are actions the club cab take, just like in tug hill and old forge, there are trail pass checks and you can be fined for trespassing. it is a grouping of public and private land. the club works very hard with local land owners for permissible passage thru their property.

like any trail system, you need to respect the land owners, use the trail signs and take care of the land by not leaving your shit behind. If everyone stays on the marked trails and does not make trouble, the system will continue to grow.

As far as registration, there are many ways to buy passes and even if approached on the trail, you will have an opportunity to purchase from a volunteer that is checking passes.

I think also there have been DCNR officers patrolling and help from local police.

I dont understand how you get to charge for using your clubs trails. I belong to a club in the Laurel Highlands (maple summit) and we groom but we dont charge extra to ride our section of the trails. All grooming money comes from memberships, donations and grants. I thought in PA. as long as your registered and current that is your trail pass for anywhere in Pa.

Trails sound def. be ridable Sunday. I have over 1200 miles this season in potter and tioga alone. All the bad reports people don't go and the trails were decent. Not bad for only weekend trips this year. You better believe that I will be riding potter and tioga this weekend.

This is a private cub or association with granted permission to use private land and a mix of public access roads. I don't think the club sees any state money. All of the money is from donations and club trail passes.

You are correct in that to ride in PA public designated snowmobile trails.. all you need is insurance and reg. But these are not DCNR trails. State forests for example are and the public has the ability to ride without above and beyond trail passes.

Same thing as Old Forge, the town makes you purchase the trail pass, but you can ride tug hill without.

I have no affiliation with the club other than me buying pass and riding, so what I say can be totally off base.. that is just how I understand the way it works.

I don't think DCNR officers would patrol private land.
I know you're just trying to cut down on "freemobilers"

I am not sure about the DNCR, but they were trying to pay to have a "police patrol" to add to the authority at sticker checks. Which is a GOOD thing. The club does a great job with what they get and deserve the money they ask for in membership .People that ride for free take away from what could even be a better system. I have heard my friends grumble about not wanting to pay for a pass untill we get snow, then having to pay more because it is an "in season pass" $50.00, compared to Pre-season pass at $35.00. Even if I don't get to use the system for a season, I do not think that my $35.00 is wasted.I think of it as a worthwhile donation.

I have personaly been stopped this year by DCNR. They were setting at the green [township?] building where B crossees Rt 370, east of Herrick Center. Everthing was cool, they could care less though about NEPA's sticker , they were just checking for proper state registration papers and insurance.
