Hey all, just wanted to say hey and give you all a little warning.....I am moving from CT to Unionville PA for a job I was just hired for and will most likely have a few silly questions about riding in PA. I am fairly new to the snowmobile thing, I just started riding last winter with a friend in VT. I really didn't like it at first and had a hard time with it until I was made to go up a steep incline with a drop off...it was then that I learned how to ride and have loved it ever since!

This summer I plan on saving some money, (well a lot of money I guess) and pick up a hitch for my 2005 Subaru Baja and a super light weight trailer and eventually a snowmobile or 2. Until then I will just browse/search through the forums and learn as much as possible!

Thanks in advance!

Welcome, I would normally say that your in an area with a lot of good riding but this year has sucked royally. Anyways, there are a lot of friendly folks in this area and I had the chance to ride with several of them this winter. Since your in Uniontown your only a little over an hour away from the L.H. trails. There about 80 miles of trails on the state map and many more that are off the map. Here's a link to the trail systems.

http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/FORESTRY/snowm.../snowindex.aspx

You will be in the Laurel Highlands part of the system although the north central is only three or so hours away from Uniontown.

Good luck with the move and keep in touch.. looks like the rest of this winter is a bust here and any riding is going to be over within a couple of weeks if not a lot sooner. God, it pains me to type that. It feels like someone just ripped my arms off.

I hear ya! When I went for the interview there was no snow at all there. However with most of the weekend off I don't mind doing a little bit of driving, of course this will be for next year trau14.gif

Yes equine means horses. I would have stayed in CT but everyone is jumping ship in all industries. Most wealth people in CT will hire illegals to do my job for half the money and condemned housing.

Well this job is mainly a caretaker situation BUT I do get to ride. This woman I am working for has 6 horses to herself and rides dressage. I have ridden most of the disciplines but have never done team roping. I can do some veterinary and training....... I suppose for the minimal professional training I have had I am pretty decent (meaning I don't fall off!) Do you have any pics of you in the team roping action?

You are only about 12 miles from some real nice riding when the snow gods bless us.

If you like snow relocated to Northwestern part of PA where the snow belt is! wink.gif

Good luck with your stay in PA

sucks that you are on the other side of PA...

Take care,
Dusty

I have been riding since I was about 8 or so....on and off though (I am 25 now). Most of that was a combo of learning to ride on my own horse and lessons in college. I had to put my horse down about 2 and a half years ago due to cancer...but he was a lot of fun...he was an old Morgan/QH type. I had him for about 10 years or so, he was an old barrel horse.

How about you?

only about 6 years... was off and on for a while.. I am now afoot.. I just sold my last one a few months ago.

I was paying board to the tune of $200 month.. just bought a house... things got tough.. but I know he is in a good home.

Hey BajaBabe,, Are you talking the Unionville, which is in Chester County , Pa ?? This is in the south eastern part of the state, west of phila. 30/35 miles... ( lot of horse farms in the area along with the New Bolton Animal Medical Resreach Center) If thats the area ??? we get very little snow anymore,, like this year maybe 2/3 different times a inch or two at most,, Years ago we got alot more "white gold"and it hung around for awhile. Any Pa "good snow" is 150/200 miles west or northwest in the :schild27: :m2c: northcentral part of the state, and that has been very spotty in the last couple of years,, Good luck,, Welcome to Pa,,, :m2c: :schild27:

You have my location exactly right!

It's too bad about the lack of snow....but even still...driving 150/200 miles isn't so bad. Its got to be better than driving from CT to northern VT.
Even here in CT we haven't had much snow at all...and not that I'm all that old but, I remember as a kid having storm after storm around here, its just not cold enough anymore trau14.gif

Well, I guess you can totally ignore my post! Not even close to the L.H. You are however close to the Pocono's grin.png

Welcome aboard! Check out the NEPA trail system in Forst City, it's probably your closest "good" riding. Some smaller state park areas around the north east as well.
