sno-man!
Ok I have a 60 csx that I am going to get up and running. What I need to know is what type of maps should I get. I ride in Michigan and ride a lot in the U.P. so I would like to have the trail map over the local roads (is this posible?). Also I hear everyone talking about TOPO maps, can you have all three maps on one screen at the same time?

Basicly I need to know what maps I should get, I will be using this for snowmobiling only as of now!

thanks!

I have the 60Cs and you need to get the topo map 2008 is the newest version out there then you need the patch for the trail maps when you load the maps and highlight them then the patch and highlight it it will all show on your gps the patch is in this thread

Get Garmin Topo US 2008...about $90 from online vendors and try my FREE MI statewide custom trail map.

The map installs into Mapsource where you can select it for upload to your Garmin GPSr. The map has a transparent background so your basemap or any detailed maps (Topo, City Navigator etc) you upload along with the trail map will show through. The trail map can be toggled on/off in your GPSr just like any other Garmin map. The trails will appear as a white line with red border and have floating trail number boxes...see attached picture. The map was created from the most current ESRI shapefile data available from the MI DNR.

download zip file here...read the enclosed READ_ME_FIRST.txt file for installation/use instructions

Three main options I'm aware of:

RWS's free maps, indicated above.
Free maps from GPSSledMaps.com
Not Free maps from VVMapping.com (disclaimer - these are mine)

Personally, I think TOPO has too much clutter with the elevation profiles (luckily you can turn them off on some units).

The image below is the same area as Ross has shown on his GPS screen shot, just zoomed out a bit with a different map.
