Question for you guys that have rebuilt a 580cc engine.. #1 is it worth it. #2 what did it cost to have the crank rebuilt, I know new one go for any where between 900 an 1200 bucks kinda spendy #3 when rebuilting a 580cc motor are there any upgrades that you can do to it to make it a more reliable motor.. #4 what would you guys recommend putting in it for pistons, and is there a good fully complete rebuild kit available on the market for these motors... and last but not least what kinda money am I looking at to have this motor completly rebuilt... any help would be greatly appreciated..

1. Only you can answer that.
2. In my case 2 core cranks
3. Enlarge pto oil passage, port cleanup and slp heads.
4. All of the aftermarkets are good to run. If your cylinders are damaged, make sure and have your over size pistons for the machinist to properly clearance the cylinders.
5. $400-$1200

'95's don't have the PTO oil passage problem.

the 95 isn't a 580 it is a 597.

I agree... my xlt is a 95 and its got the 597cc.....and I would go with weisco pistons and rings....Have the crank seals replaced...if the crank is still good then I wouldn't wory about that....It will cost around a $1000 but thats not bad considering you're sled will last 6000 or so more miles....I will say that for aftermarket parts go.....there is nothing cheaper than getting a clutch kit and slp tripple pipes.....clutch kit $150 used slp pipes Around $200 and you will be amazed at how much of an improvement you're sled will have.

I just went and double check it again my 95 SKS is a 580cc motor.. never been changed... it has 7400 miles on it now and the crank seals are starting to get bad thats why im thinking of rebuilding it... otherwise it still runs good.. just tough to get going after siting for awhile... and if I'm going to rebuild the motor i want to do it right so pressing new bearings on the crank is a must, i cant see whya person would put a bunch of new parts into a motor and rely on old crank bearings... kinda playing with fire, if you ask me.. so can anyone tell me a good place to sent my 580 crank to get the bearings pressed on it and a rough estimate on how much it'll cost... thanx...

Are you sure its a '95?? The '95's were 597cc motors.

As far as crank work, Pete Nydahl in Bristol,WI (262-857-7078) does good work.
I recommeded him to a guy on another forum and he was very happy with him.
This guy got qoutes from other people from $500-$800. Pete did his crank with new bearings and
double wide PTO bearing for added durability for $400.

As far as pistons, I would go with the SPI moly coated with hard anodized tops. 1/2 the cost of seizeco's.
I also prefer Cometic gasket sets.
Have rebuilt 3 xlt Motors with this combo and all are running good

depending on how far you want to travel to get the work done.......I have heard lots of good things about indy specialities which is in minneapolis......but I'm sure you can find a good shop around you're area......probably cheaper too.....but look to spend around a $1000......definatly do the crank berrings.....7400 miles is about the life span of thoes engines.....which is better than most other snowmobiles........

100% sure its a 95, thats when my dad bought it off of the show room floor.. also have the registration.. which states this also... I get that question alot.. i bought it early in 95 so i dont know if that makes a difference, or that its an SKS model, but the consensis seems to think that they didn't make 580cc motors in 95... wierd to me because i have one.. I dont know it could have been a special order sled gone array never cared enough to find out.. thanx for the help...
