Just wondering if anybody has ever been to this place by snowmobile.
If so, what is your opinion of the place and the trails they have?
Any recomendations for what trails to take to get there? I believe you have to go to Northeast Carry, and then up to Chesuncook.
What was your overall experience like?
Thanks

Spent a lot of time in the early 90s (Caribou/Chesuncook) and will trailer up there once in a while to hit some logging rds and we try to get up the trains every couple of years, if you can get to Ragged there are some nice groomed trails (pretty quick rip to Kokadjo and all points) or find your way to NE carry via Lobster and there are some good trails but dont expect alot of groomed signed country up there, but a great destination for logging rds and the best off trail excurtions. If the trail is open, head up to Spencer for the view, on a side note they were logging on the back side of Blood pond during Nov....that always tends to screw up the back trail riding. You can also head over to the eastern side of Chesuncook and get some decent riding towards Telos.......But beware, You may be into some deep snow conditions. have fun and dont hesitate to send me a PM for more info.

Mostly fishing, trapping, and cat/dog hunting this time of year up there. Not much for sledding unless you want to ride log roads and the back country. It surely isn't a destination place. We used to go every year to fish and explore. No grooming, no signs, and no gas.

A few outfitters keep a trail groomed from the parking lots off Pine stream road off the Golden road that go to Chesuncook and their lodges. All the rest is lake riding. Ice fishermen have hammered down trails on the lake to go fishing, but nothing groomed. The lake and Caribou together are a 20 mile run on the lakes. Bring you own gas. In the same area is the Allagash waterway . Park at Chamberlain Lake parking lot. You can travel the whole waterway up to Churchill and beyond. Again bring you own gas. No groomed trails but lots of trails from ice fishermen. The carry trails between the lakes where you get off the lake are marked , but more than likely you will end up following the trails from others. If you have never been there, go with someone who has. It's one of the best off trail areas in Maine. Look for the trains between Eagle and Chamberlain lakes.

2Twisted nailed it as far as routes and options to groomed areas. Drive to Millinocket/Medway exit on 95. Go thru Millinocket and go out 50 miles on the Golden Road. Turn right on Pine Stream road and follow to plowed parking area. Follow trail into Chesuncook Village. The Poulin Road will take you towards Lobster Lake cross Maxwell brook and that will put you on the trail between NE Carry and Ragged (Old Grant Farm) location.

Great people and better food. Ask for the bison burger. best damn burger I have ever had. Next year there will be a groomed trail from northeast carry next year

We unload on Caribou and ride almost all lake all the way to Churchill Dam.
You have to ride the side of the TransCanada to jump on Chamberland or you can take the Mud Carry trail if it is not flooded.

we have been there twice this year. we were told by the guy who owns the chessuncook lake house that you are able to ride the lobster road from NE carry to the logging camps. go behind the camps and out a logging road that will dump you out across from the pine stream road. ride the pine stream road to the village ( 9 miles). they have a piston bully up there now and groom some trails in the area. they also have gas for $4.00 a gallon. great food too.
from there you can ride just about anywhere, but plan your fuel accordingly.

Rode up that way a few times this year. Went up earlier and unloaded at the public boat landing on Chesuncook the first time and rode over to N.E. Carry via Lobster Lake. This past weekend rode from Shin Pond Village to N.E. Carry via the ITS trails and back to Shin Pond via Poulin Rd to Pine Stream Rd and down on Chesuncook around Quaker Brook up to Umbazooskus Lake over to Chamberlin Lake. The ride Sat. was around 240 miles the route that we took. Like everyone said great riding in the area not groomed but not overwhelmed with people riding either.

Well, this is the guy that owns the Chesuncook Lake House & Cabins. YOU CAN GET HERE FROM THERE!! Currently the Pine Stream Rd is plowed, but not posted. I recommend taking the Ragged trail to the OP1 Rd, to Caribou Lake and cruising up the west side of Chesuncook to the village. We have had 50+ sleds in the past 2 days doing this route, everyone has said that the lake is great sledding.
If you want GPS coordinates and more info. go to our website "chesuncooklakehouse.com" and click on "flying your own plane here", (guess I'll have to add sled to that). As for fuel and food, just fed and fueled 19 people at breakfast! We have all cabins full as well as the Lake House this weekend, so 25+ sledders can't be wrong!
Also, we formed a new snowmobile club "Suncook Sledders", and we added a Pisten Bully 170 and a 25' mogal master this season, cutting operations have limited our grooming. Spoke to wood cutters and they said that they would be gone this week. SIGNS, we have put up signs and they have been stolen. There is a $5000. REWARD for any info that leads to a conviction of the jerk or jerks that are stealing them!!!!!!
We have an average of 6 feet of snow out there and more on the way. If you like to ride, you'll love sledding here, and beyond to the trains.
We raise all our own meats, the specialty of the house is Bison! Buffalo burgers are the best!
Come visit, get off the ITS, you'll be amazed at what you find!

I just got back from a day ride to Bald mountain and then off to Pittston Farm, NE Carry and then to see some friends staying at a cabin behind the Chesuncook Lake house!!
We had a great ride. The cabins look like a great place to stay, there is even a seperate building with hot showers and bathrooms!!
We also hear from the guys that the food is great! I guess by the look of the salmon on the ice that the fishing was fine too!
We came in from little Lobster and down Pine Stream Road. plenty of snow on the road. it does not look it right at Golden Road, but just around the first corner it was fine.. tonight should make it even better!! Only took 3 gallons of fuel in the 600HO renegade to get from NE Carry to the Chesuncook Lake house. (I think they have fuel at the lake house as well)
Should have no problem getting from NE Carry to the lake house in 1 to 1 1/2 hrs. 200 miles round trip from Jackman for us, I would add another 20 or 30 miles for taking the regular trails.

There is a new trail to Mud Pond from Umbazooksus Lake. You don't need to go up the "Carry Trail" or "Brook" anymore. When you get to the Trans Canada Rd (also on Delorms as "Grande Marche Rd") you'll turn right for 2/10's of a mile then at mile 29 turn left, follow the trail to mud pond. No water running on this new carry trail. Follow the signs.
Look for a GPS log to be posted after this weekend on the train route.

This was so easy, my wife and I did it Thursday, and I went again on Saturday with a few others in tow (including my 15yr old nephew).
If your leaving from Kokadjo, real easy. You're 40 miles from Chesuncook Lake House, about 60 to the trains. What we did was top off at Kokadjo, took 86 east to the Lost Skidder Trail. Head up to the Farrar Mtn. trail, turn left toward Grant Farm/Ragged Lake. Once there, take the trail straight ahead, don't turn toward Northeast Carry. Follow it across the Golden Road (you'll see a sign or 2 for the scenic loop, don't take it. Turn right at the "Hole In The Woods/Golden Road sign). Cross the Golden road and go follow down onto Caribou Lake. If you have a gps, you should have no problem following the west shore up to Chesuncook. I set up the trip on a mapping program then transfered the waypoints to the gps to follow.
From Northeast Carry - you're about 23 miles from Chesuncook Lake House. We ran back this way both days. It does require running plowed roads. Use caution and watch for trucks!! Run down the road from Northeast Carry (not toward Moosehead, the other way). When you come to a logging camp, stay to the right, you'll pass right through the middle of it toward the gravel pit. Stay straight through the pit, (Poulin Road) this will take you to the Golden Road. Cross onto Pine Stream Road (plowed and heavy trucking). road will fork a short ways up, keep right. Follow about 9 miles, you'll see a parking area, turn right onto the trail (groomed). It's about 4 miles from there if I remember right.
I'll post both track logs later this week to get to Chesuncook House. Have some other stuff to tend to right off, but will get to it. Hope to make the trip again Saturday if all goes good. WELL WORTH IT!!!!
Must add that if you're coming with a large group to call ahead and give them a heads up for burgers and fuel. Great people, great food, and some awesome scenery!

I didn't have the GPS points with me from Mac once I got past the Lake House. We literally just followed the trail from their porch. It's mostly lake riding and pretty easy to see. I was familiar with Chamberlain so I knew how to find the trains from there, but I would recommend when getting on Chamberlain that you zip to the eastern shore(you come out on the western) and then travel up/North till you see the trail that goes into the woods for the trains on the east shore. On the way back it would be easy to miss the trail you came onto the lake on, if you don't mark it by eye. I had a GPS running the whole time, so I just back tracked, but would have been able to do it pretty easily without one.
