Hi i have a 2003 XCSP 500 and I adjusted the TPS sensor to 3.89 VOC from the 4.15 VOC that it was at and it seems to have lost some of its snap.. Is this normal for this to happen when you adjust the TPS sensor or should it be above 4.0 VOC on the 2003 models... I heard that on the 2002 models it was causing some sleds to burn up and thats way i adjusted it.. On the good side of thing it doesn't have the dead spot it did when i hit the throttle, nice and smooth now.. just curious

When you lower the voltage, the part throttle timing will decrease.
my 02 500 was at 4.05, my 05 600 is at 4.1, and my 06 500 is at 4.16.

i see what your talking about but did you reset your TPS sensor to a lower VOC or did you leave it above 4.0.. Does anyone know what the 2003 Model XCSP 500's are susposed to be set at.. Was this the rright move or should I reset the TPS VOC to the 4.15 VOC that it came with.. If I do reset it would the .15 VOC above 4.0 VOC harm anything... And does the TPS problem that the 2002 XC or XCSP had apply to the 2003 Model year or was that post about resetting the TPS's VOC specifically meant for those that had a 2002 model year... thanx

i was under the impression that the 02s were set back to help with overheating issues.i know some guys set to 4.25.dont know if thats good or bad thou.

We have been setting the tps voltage to 4.0-4.1 vdc which seems to give the best results in performance vs. detonation at mid range trail speeds in these sleds. I've had 600 edges of every year...they all have come from polaris set at 4.3-4.6 vdc which seems too high...i've noticed some pinging on lower grade fuel when riding in the 6000-6500 rpm range....so going to around 4.0 vdc solves it and you still get go performance. I think setting it at 3.89 vdc is a little too low for a 600 motor.

Timing was set back in 03, thats one of the reasons why the 02's have the highest hp of all the xc7's

so if i'm getting the gist of this post the 4.15 VDC at WOT, that my sled came with stock, isn't too much for the 2003 XCSP 500's... and the over heating or buning up problems that they had were specifically geared toward the 2002 XCSP model years regaurdless of the engine size. But to be on the safe side as far as VDC is concerned 4.0- 4.10 is an acceptible VDC to have and not have to worry about pinging or over heating, plus it helps the sled maintain a good power ratio... is this a correct assumption...

I never changed my settings, thats the way they came from the dealer.
Low 4's should be fine with good gas.
I think the 800xc had the most problems with readings over 4.

All our fuels here are oxgenated or ethanol types. Just seems if the tps voltage is left at 4.3vdc or higher you get some detonation at mid rpms. I don't think a 500 will be affected very much as a 700 or 800 motor. As far as overheating...that might be another issue with the sleds cooling design or even too short a snowflap. Its always a good idea though to check the tps voltage if good fuels are not always available.

I'd say your pretty close. I'd leave an '03 set stock, unless it was set too low(below 4.1). Never messed with a 500, but 600 to 800, the 600 is less noticable than 700 and 800 as said earlier. Too low will hurt top end RPM a little, and MPG. If you set it back up, and have a "clatter" in mid range from detonation, just turn the key to "regular" setting until you get better gas. The highest I've found was an '02 700 @ 4.33volts. Most '03 have been set around 4.1 to 4.2 that I've checked, 600 did not get any better going higher, the 700's did.

Any polaris dealer can perform a tps check. There are aftermarket shops like SLP that sell tps checkers or you can build your own as a buddy did with a well regulated 5vdc supply...a #25 tamperproof torx tool some spare wiring to make a harness and knowledge of the tps wiring...you have gnd...ref.voltage...and 5vdc in.
