Just a note that gas is now available at Dixie's Saloon on Hwy 2 near Two Harbors. They are located 4 miles south of the Hwy 2 lot. The access trail is just a block or so east of where the North Shore Trail crosses Hwy 2. The pump is a 24 hour credit card operation (although I assume they take cash when they're open). I was amazed at the price - $2.999 for 87 and something like $3.359 for the good stuff. The price for 87 is 10 cents cheaper than Duluth and (I'm told) 4 cents cheaper than Two Harbors.
This is an asset to the trail for sure - it saves a longer ride into Two Harbors (I've never had good luck with catching that trail when it's groomed).

And the food is great... (atm/credit card only for gas at the pump, cah not an option even during noraml bussiness hours)
