Rode that area yesterday up to just north of Plainfield, then over toward Kellner...Anything in the woods is junk...The open fields are still in good to very good condition...Westfield was hammered early a.m. and more than likely got worse as the day went on. Lots of sledders pullin in to park n ride there...Westfield to Coloma was hammered also...Trails got better the further north of Coloma I rode......

all those trails are great when there groomed. weekdays would be the best time to go out. some of the trails are pretty bumpy, nothing to bad but if you get out early enough you get the groomed trails that no ones been on.

GROOM. Saturday started good from Westfield-Harrisville-Coloma-Hancock-Plainfield-Rome. Everything south of Rome along Petenwell & Castle Rock to Adams/Friendship just plain sucked. There was evidence that some of those trails have not been touched since they got the snow last weekend. Rode crossing were plowed up, etc. I could see club trails being neglected, but a major corridor (21S)????????????? It got better from Grand Marsh to Westfield.

1BadHo is on the money, if even a little bit nice. My buddy and a woman from high school that hasn't ridden in 10 years met Ho's group and we second his opinion.
Talk about F'ing junk..........110 miles Saturday.....100 were BAD.
I live in this area, and haven't seen it this bad in a long time. Not just a few spots, but COLLECTIVELY BAD.
I am very disappointed in our local clubs.

I rode around Wautoma last weekend and found that the Mid-State Snowdrifters did a great job. Their trails were flat and fast, while others like Neshkoro, Berlin and a few others had not been groomed in a looooooong time. I can not figure out why those trails were not groomed to perfection? The weekend before we rode Wautoma, Mt. Morris, Wild Rose, Neshkoro, Princeton, Green Lake, Berlin and Redgranite with all but Neshkoro trails in great condition so I know they know how to groom. I don't know how bad the warm weather on Monday hurt....but I saw hardly and snirt all weekend down there. I hope to get back down there in a few weeks

Rode 2/22 out of Dellwood(right on Castle rock). Was ungroomed until we hit Moundview golf course. Rode all of the way up to Rome. Great trails groomed flat. Little bit rougher on the way back but not bad by any means. We were in the bar at Bay Rest up on Petenwell, and they lady there said the club was out of money for grooming. They were having a fishing tournament on Saturday to raise some cash.
2/23 rode south through Easton and the groomer was out. Made a loop toward the dells and back. Lots of areas had trees bent over the trails and a groomer could not get through. Did see two guys with saws and things on the back of their sled so I am assuming they were part of the club and were clearing things out. Overall I thought the riding was very good.

The Princeton trails have been rough lately because of a broken down groomer (engine problems), but it is back in action now and some trails have been groomed on Wed. the 27th. Markesan and Sno-Streakers trails have been poor - as usual. Rode some of those on Tue that have not been groomed since the last snow and who knows how long before that. Neshkoro- poor - as usual. Berlin's have been good. Ripon's good. Montello also had a broken down groomer.

Why are Neshkoro trails so bad? Do they not own a groomer? I would think with the amount of snow they have there is no reason they are not out grooming. Two weekends ago everything but Neshkoro was in great shape. Their trails were washboard as far as you could see

It seems that the biggest reason for washboard trails is just not enough grooming. It is not from poor groomer operation or poor equipment. Some clubs are still stuck with the thinking of 20 or 30 years ago - that once every week to two weeks is enough. And many clubs do not have set intervals for grooming, it is done whenever one of the members feels like it, and sometimes it doesn't get done for a long time.
Of course, it is the amount of traffic that dictates the grooming intervals, but most trails in the area see enough traffic that they should be groomed twice a week. The timing of the grooming is also most important.
The Princeton grooomer was repaired and not all of the trails had been groomed when it broke down again. The trails there are getting rough again.
