We came across two DCNR fella's this morning back on the games lands behind SB. As we were talking about people riding like assholes he mentioned there was a critical accident, I think he said on four mile road, where two sleds collided head on. Two people were life flighted and one was an 11 year old girl. I know I saw some asshole coming down four mile road really fast and really out of control Friday evening. He's hauling ass, front end is ALL over the road, coming right at me then he sticks his hand out to signal one guy behind him.. So now he is hauling ass, out of control, the front end of the sled ALL over the road with one hand on the bars... I flipped him off which at least made me feel good. I know I go a little crazy every once in a while but sometime I don't take the accidents that happen in NY or away from home to heart.. Just a reminder guys and gals... ride safe! I made some friends on this board this season I don't want to hear about your funeral or my family about mine...

How were the trails up there? I tried to give you my cell phone number to get a report but you must not have gotten it. Anyway, we went up to Black Moshannon and it was about an 8 out of 10. First time up there and thought it was great. SB should have had a little more snow due to higher elevation.

I owe you an apology. I got your cell and we didn't get back until late last night and I forgot. The trails were super! Groomer was out on the south side of 153 Firebreak, Schoffield, Kelly Cellar that area. We plan on going back up early Friday morning and riding Friday, Sat and Sun morning. Looks like or should I say I hope that the snow up that way should stick and they may get another 6" or so... Guess we will just wait and see... check your PM's? I sent you on after I got your cell number..

trails were not that bad early in morning, around lunch time when the sun was out bright the corners went away FAST! didnt know there was a bad accident on saturday but do know there was an 07 blizzard that got towed out and will most likely be totalled but no one was hurt.

Wow..... Someone who agrees with me What does does it mean when you just passed the the last guy after being given the fingers ? Does this mean open er up, hey I can ride on the other side now, the group I just passed knows there is no one behind them so, I can ride recklessly and not pay attention ? ! ? Hello.... keep your freekin hands on the bars when my family meets you on the trail cause, God help you if one of you takes out someone in my group. I'm not against the first rider giving a quick arm up to signal to the rest to be extra carefull of on comming traffic. 2 winters ago I had a Female straggler from a group of Blair Morgans put, me in the ditch on a turn all the while giving me the No body behind fist ! ? !
Please explain why using the fingers system is good and what this allows you to do verse passing riders that don't use them ?
While riding at night I see a headlight comming or the front sleds brake light come on what would you do.....yep, slow down and pull to the far right. During the day the same only this time the following riders clearly see the front sleds hand and in seconds see the oncomming sleds them selves. Always ride Assuming there are sleds comming around the next turn or hill, what you cannot Assume is there will be no more comming ? I often ride on small trail systems of around 100 miles total and have ridden in these high traffic areas where I have passed at least 30+ groups/sleds in a single day so, just how silly is it to all be fingering each other so that, while riding 1/4 of your day is with one hand.......sorry, that is scary !

Honestly, I don't have a problem with signaling WHEN APPROPRIATE and your going slower but hauling ass, sled all over the place and one hand on the bars is ridiculous. I do agree with everything you posted. I always signal the number of riders but I am not going triple digits out of control either. Got a story last night about a lady in our area that was going over some stutter bumps and accidently pegged the throttle and into a tree. Thank God she was alright but they life flighted her out. So, if you can smack a tree with both paws on the bars then running triple digits out of control with one paw on the bars is dangerous.. Wow, the guy in my original post must have really got to me.. more so than I thought... someone should lock this thread or I may just keep going on and on.. grin.png I guess it must have scared the hell out of me more than I realized.. Could you imagine getting hit head on with someone going close to 100 mph? You'd be dead for sure..

I hope to go up Thursday nite if possible.

The correct way is first slow down until you are completely under control and then signal to the lead rider. All you are doing is trying to be safe in this situation. If the person is signaling and out of control he was riding to fast in the first place.

How do you and your brother like the new trailers? I bought the Blizzard off your brother back in December and just love the thing! That drive on drive off is super-duper!

dvarmit, are you going to ride SB Elliott park this weekend? I would like to try it once, we ride right past SB & parker dam, and go to the ANF. Is there many miles of trails to ride? possibly looking for some new places to ride.

Yes, as of now, we are going up on Friday morning. We put on 160 miles last Saturday and a couple of hours on Sunday morning. There are a lot of trails and roads to run up there. I have found that a lot of the trails in the northern section, off the state land, are not on the map so it's a little deceiving mileage wise. I have seen some others that are interested in riding up at S.B. this weekend if they still have snow. We could meet at S.B. Elliot by the bear check station sometime Saturday morning and see how many people we get. I would be happy to show some people around for a couple of hours Saturday.

So, I guess we could setup a time Saturday to meet if the conditions are good. Anyone else interested?

Does anyone know how much snow they have up north? From the sno-cam off I80 at exit 111 it looks pretty good. Seems like they got mostly snow all day today with some rain.

Thanks for the offer, I forgot to mention that I leave my sleds and trailer just outside Lantz Corners at a friends beings that I drive 4.5 hours to get there. The way that the winter has been, I figured no sense towing back and forth from SE PA! We have to plan another time for the get together at SB. I will post back later tonight with snow conditions up north when I talk to my friend later.

If the link doesn't work click on "Map" in the left top corner, click on Clearfield then the Exit 111 on I80 link. The Anderson Creek link is dead and has been for over a year. That pic with the water and semi-truck is from God knows when so ignore that cam.

Good news on the SNOW! We are going to run the sleds or ourselves into the ground this weekend. The idea is whichever breaks first, the sled or my back. grin.png

We are probably going to head north to the ANF at some point this weekend.

Hey guys. As of about 5:00 or so today, snow totals were showing about 9 inches or so on the ground. It's been snowing like hell since then and is looking good for the trails. There is still a possible chance of getting up to 6 more inches or so by morning. Hopefully more snow will fall for the weekend as those early riders tend to beat the trails pretty good. I'll try to post again and let everyone know about the total snowfall as soon as I can. i_need_snow.gif

Snow totals in some areas are about 13 inches or so. It's about 9 degrees right now and expected to fall throughout the night. Snow is being called for Thursday night into Friday. Now the snow machine is starting to work!!! m2c.gif
