Full Version: key and kill switch dont work

hey i was riding my 99 zrt 600 all day and i had no problems turning the sled off when i was taking breaks anyway i get home and go to turn the sled off and both the key and kill switch do not work!! i had to shut the sled off by flipping the choke. any ideas??

To run without the switch you just have to jump the 2 ignition switch wires to each other. The kill switch will still shut the sled off.

I think you missed it. He wants to be able to shut it off. If the key and kill switches don't work all of a sudden than that is really weird. Sorry, don't have an answer. It happened to me on an old sled one time when the fan belt broke. Even had to pull the plug wires and it still ran for about 10 seconds. That is one I will never have the answer to.

check for corrosion at the 4 pin plug coming from the engine.

the CDI unit is most likely shorted out

I had the same sled same problem ended up being the stater plate

1 problem could be the connectors on the stator harness have gotten wet with water or coolant,,,,,pull apart and hit them with contact cleaner. 2 My stator harness rubbed on my brake rotor and if I remember correctly the brown wire was ground off at the four pin connector. Had the same thing happen to me and I was stumped for a couple days until I started to look close at all the wiring associated with the stator and ignition. GOOD LUCK!!!
