I am curious what a good speed is for a 1995 XCR 440 1000' speed, Guy is on a pit about 4 blocks from my house tuning his sleds for the radar runs, he's got his gun up there. He plowed the track for his, bald track with 270some picks. I launched from the line barley moving and got 77 in the 1000, that seem about right? Pulls about 81-8200 RPM off the line. Got a custom Hot Seats clutch setup in there.
Ridin' again?
77 for a fuji 440 with that many pics sounds pretty good. 8100-8200 is right where it should be. Most of them I've had topped at about 80-85 in stock trim. Also from my experience with the hot seat kits they have "pre made", is that most are set for a strong launch and mid range pull. They sacrifice a lot of top end. But, great for the trails. My 98xcr440 lost about 10MPH off the top with one, but pulls like no tomorrow to about 70.

I GPS'd my 440 at 86.7 top end, that was just 1000' run, and No studs for me. The other guys were runnin studs, I was runnin 7/8 track wore to about 3/4 on bare ice. the 77 was in my 1000' run on radar.

My 440 does 83 in 1000' with 144 trail studs. I think you are running too many studs. You should not need more than 144 ice piks in a 440. I ran 128 ice piks/chiesels on my 440 and in 620' ice drags I got 76 mph with a epi black, I-30 weights, epi ornage and R-8.
I also can only get 70 mph with my full hotseat "kit"

once again, i'm running NO studs, the guy with an xc600 turbo is running the studs. I've got no studs at all.

But I went down again, I ran a top speed run about 2500-3000 feet I got 93 out of it on the gun.

I misunderstood you on the pics. Sorry. 93 is fast for a 440. My 98 has the domestic twin full of go fast goodies and topped at 98-100 on gps and needed all the room I could give it to get there on a good hard packed run. I've never pulled 1000' on this one, but I think you may have a little more in it than 77. But probably no more than 82-84 if you work on clutching a little bit and maybe add a few studs to make sure you aren't spining to much. I guess it depends on what you ride it for the most. I gave up a lot of top end for better hole shot and handling on the traild where I do 99% of my riding. So what if I'm not the first one across teh lake. You should see the looks I get from the guys when I take a 700 or 800 off the line and corner to corner on the trail. rockernana.gif

I love my clutch work, its hard hitting on the trail and whatnot, the only thing I don't like about it is my secondary is pretty easy to move, I am thinking of cranking up spring deflection up a little bit so it will backshift faster. I'm going to have a guy look at it, I needed about 2500 feet to get that 93. I got 86.7 on GPS, but I wasn't on it the whole run like I was today. I'm thinking of throwing in 96 studs, I want to run in a 500 and under class, see how it does against the competition where I live.

I launched a wedge 500SP and held it off today, they were hittin 91.
Ridin' again?
Check where your spring is located in teh secondary. It should be in hole #2. If you want a little faster downshift, got to #3 This will also put a little more pressure on the clutch to keep it closed. Nothing like beating a bigger sled is there! ylsuper.gif

It is in hole 2. I am going to have to go to hole 3 and see how I like that.

you are running 180 to many pics. that sled setup for 1000' radar runs will get by real easy with 96 pics. i ran improved 800's with 96 pics.

for that sled you will want to gear for about 85-90 mph. any "premade" kit is basically junk for speed runs. 99% of the clutch companies dont have a clue how to make a speed kit for consumer sleds. not to bash them, but for speed its so much more than just clutching, and they dont know the tune of your sled, driver wieght.

you should be running some low octane vp fuel, work you way down on jetting, a 48-34 dual angle helix with silver blue, stock primary would be a good starting point. 77 mph on a picked sled is not good at all, on a side note. back that radar gun up about 200' for an accurate 1000' run. the radar gun is going to pick you up at about 800'.

Sorry, once again, I am not running any, the guy that has all of them has an xc600 turbo. I'm actually pretty pleased with my clutch setup for trail riding and lake running. I'm running Hot seats hypershift 48 gram weights, HSP34 helix, black primary and white secondary, works very well in my opinion, really good holeshot and good pull in the mid-upper end. I called them and changed the weights in the kit, the rest works very well. I'm running NO pics, I am contemplating if I want to run the sled in the runs or not if there is a class for me. If there is a class and I do run I will put studs in.

OHHH.
they usually have a non studded class
