while I have never gone riding in canada, I was told by 3 different people there is a good chance (actually better than 50%) I would not come back with my sled and maybe not even my tow vehicle.

it doesnt matter what you lock it up with if they want it they will take it its the chance you take having fun in this sport .

I have owned them all. Salt and ice lock them up all the time. Gorilla guard being the absolute worst. A simple brass and stainless padlock through the coupler safty pin area will lock it up both when alone or tied to the truck and if it freezes a ligher will melt it out in a minute.

Tentenths,

3 people out of how many come to CANADA and go sledding and something happens either to thier sled or vehicle/trailer or both and you assume it would be 50% will get there stuff stolen up here?

If you think it is that bad up here please do not come sledding in Canada. Maybe talk to more than 3 people about sledding in Canada and get all the facts before making comments, I guess there is no thefts in the US only in Canada. Somehow I doubt that.

Hey Arctic88,

I love Canada and have traveled there many times...just not with a sled. I mean nothing agianst your fine country but if you are unaware of this being a huge problem, especially in remote parts of Quebec, I suggest you do some research.

Here's tonight's first page of a google http://tinyurl.com/39xpt5

The 3 people who told me this are friends who love to ride and whom I respect but I still did some digging and was stunned at the results. Most of it's at the motels at night. There have also been some brazen "on the trail swaps" and even taking full rigs from gas stations with sleeping people in the back!!!

In America we'll steal everything else including your soul, but you guys do the sleds best.

now..what do you Canadians use for locks?

Tentenths,

I should clarify, There is not that big of a problem where I live as far as I have heard. I have heard that it is bad in Quebec and parts of Ontario. I use Master lock trailer couplers and master lock receiver locks, and a mean dog in the cab while at night (Just in case).
Don't mean to offend anyone, just my .02 cents

i agree with artic88,parts of quebec & ont have a reputation for being a high risk theft area, having said that i travel on both sides of the line, and find that it is always around on both sides of the border....as far as locking up a trailer i have just been using brand name locks on the reciever....was thinking about trying a wheel lock,
