Full Version: Engine burbs after idle

Just checking to see if anyone else has a solution. I was riding last weekend. The temp was about 30 - 35 f (-1 to +4). The sled ran like a top when I was going. Plugs were just right, wash was good. I run a tempaflow system.

BTW it's a 99 ZR700.

Anyways, while I was waiting for the group to catch up I left the machine idle for about 3 minutes. It was running smooth, but when I got on it to take off it coughed and missed then It caught and went fine.

Ran again. let it idle and same thing.

Funny thing is that the plugs are good. Everything else is fine.

Could it be just that It was warm and the Tempaflow doesn't compensate on the idle circuit? (Thus really rich at idle?) Or am I missing something. The tempaflow is mounted in the Airbox so it should have been drawing cool air.

I have a lot of time to figure this one out! We are losing snow here FAST!!!

Joe,

I would say it's the tempa flo......mine does not do it.....no matter what temp...also, check all your wiring....Mine did this before I found that some of my wiring was chaffed and shorting out...now she runs like a top!

Synch your carbs and all that stuff and reset your air screws.
ZR700
If you want my opinion, I think it's loading up a bit on you. Mine is stock, same sled, and does the same thing. If I plan on idling for more than 10 seconds, I shut it off, or try to keep the revs up a bit. If I let it idle too long, it seems to do the exact same thing that yours is doing. Maybe this is it, maybe not dunno.gif

my stock 02 ZR 600 does it also. spits and sputters when i take off from stop signs. anyone figures it out, lemme know.

my zl was fumbling just like that. backed the oil pump down just a fraction of the stock setting, and ditched the br9es plugs to run ngk "Y" plugs. never had a problem since.
