Some friends of mine took me sledding up north the past couple of weekends.

I AM HOOKED!

Looking to buy a new sled in the next week or two.

I think I will buy a Polaris with the 600 non carb motor.

Can anyone reccomend a good dealer.

MY friends bought there sleds in Fridley, but when I went there it sounded like they did not much care about snowmobiling any more because of bad snow.

I live in Ham Lake, my parents cabin that I can use is by Garrison, my wifes parents cabin is up by Bemidji and we can use that.

I think it would make sense to by a sled near one of the spots, does this make sense orr should I shop for lowest price.

I would like a dealer that will not rip me off because I don't know anything about motors etc. I have been told that dealer set up is really important, and can make all of the differnce in the world. Is this true?

Like I said I think I want the Polaris 600 motor, is it worth the extra money for the luxery edition compared to the regular iq, how about the dragon is that going to be to much sled for a beginner?

Any advice or things to watch out for would be much appreciated. Are there any dealer tricks I should look out for?

Also.. any thoughts on what I should buy for a trailer...something uncovered to save money. Is there a spot for good used trailers.

and while I am at it. Are the Polaris clothes ok. or are you just paying extra to buy them at the dealer.

remember you get what you pay for. as for dealer tricks, polaris's are known for coming back to the daeler often. being sled, or wheeler. Any sled goes back dont get me wrong but you will pay up with your polaris. My .02. have had 2 polaris's and i know someone who has six and their is always trouble with them. Any dealer wont tell you what is really wrong with the sleds like in the long run you will have to ask around. but they will love to take your sled back in to work on it and take your money from your pocket. As for the trailer iw ould get one with fold down ramps in the front but make sure they are like a wall, they will help protect your snowmobile from all the debris from the road like rocks, ect. And if you will be traveling far a cover for the sled should be a MUST!!
The thing is now days most snowmobiles will be good and all, its just what you want to pay for and how you want it to look. Any sled will run well for the first couple years no doubt (including normal warrentied break downs) Good luck with your snowmobile shopping and its nice to hear about another snowmobiler in this great sport!! Congrats

For a beginner I think the best sled on the market right now is the Ski Doo Rev 500 ss SDI. I ride a CAT but my mother has the ski doo and I have road that and I like it.

The 500 actually has a 593cc or something close to that. So, it is actually close to a six hundred and it goes well. Fun light little sled!!

As far as a dealer Olson Power sports is great but they are a Doo dealer. Not trying to bash the Polaris but think hard before you buy one.

My mothers is a 06 I am sure you could find a used one pretty cheap!!

I am unsure of northern dealers. Chopper City can be poor for the sales end. Good place to pick up common parts in a pinch. Since you are in Ham Lake try, GARCEAU'S

FOREST LAKE MOTOR SPORTS

NORTHWAY SPORTS

They may not give a huge break on the price unless you come with cash. But they will remember you when you come in for service and maintainence stuff. All brands make great machines. Its all about price, and what appeals to you. Polaris does build good machines. Just 1 suggestion for you............................look at the switchback, cross-over/hybrid machines are a good idea. Especially if you end up in the U.P. or the mountains.

Boomerang Sports (polaris dealer) up in melrose is an awesome dealer.......

Cuz skipoos are perfect and nothing ever goes wrong! WOW sleds are two strokes. sooner or later without some up keep there going to have something go wrong. hell i have a friend with a 2007 rev 800 and the exhaust manifold bolts came out ater 1200 miles!!! does that mean every skidoo is built cheap?? NO i don't want this to turn into a brand bash.

out of all honesty here go buy a used one off of someone on this site. this is true you get wut you pay for but as long as you bought it here i'm sure the owner will teach you a few things about the machine plus you can contact him for answers if something doesnt seem right. If the machine you go look at looks like it wuz taken care of, Use your judgement, then don't be afraid to buy from this site. Guys on here are very helpful.

Click on their store to see the rest of their sleds. VERY good to deal with, I just bought an '07 Jaguar from them.

Easy turbo, just giving my two cents! I didn't say every Doo is the best I just think the 500 ss is a good beginner sled.
