FYI... This called in to our newsroom from the bridge authority, but the Mackinac Bridge is CLOSED to ALL traffic due to falling ice off the cables into the bridge deck. We will have an update on our website: www.tv7-4.com

This happens on occasion, maybe once or twice a year. It should only last an hour or 2. If there is ice/heavy snow builtup on the towers and cables somtimes they will close the bridge if big chunks are falling. This happens whe the cables and towner warm up on a nice day like today.

They made us stay in the center lane a couple of years ago for the same reason. There were some pretty good sized chunks falling too.

Whew, I just crossed the bridge around 9:40-damn glad I didn't get caught on the other side.

All clear, bridge fully open again, and all the traffic is cleared up.
Like I said, this only happens every now and then, and then for only a couple of hours.
