A guy at work has a '92 EXT 550 that he wants to give away to me, he started it up at the beginning of the season and sucked a mouse nest into the jugs. He tore it all down and does not want to mess with it anymore, told me to take it away.

So here is my question, is the 550 a good starter sled for my 13 year old daughter? She rides my Attak and MXZ 600 around the farm and does fine but I want to start taking her out on the local trails next year. I also have a 6 and 4 year old daughter that ride a Kitty Kat but the 6 year old is already outgrowing the Kitty and getting bored. I was going to grab a 120 for her next year, she will be 7 next January, but now that the free EXT came up I am wondering if the 550 would be ok for her to ride around the farm as well??? How heavy is that sled and what kind of power and speed does it have??

TIA

I've got a '91 EXT Special and it will bury the speedo.

I have a 92 EXT 550 with a bad piston and jug and would love a parts sled if your not going to take it pm me. I can even offer a few dollars for it. By the way I was going 98 on the dream omitter across Grafton Lake when it sucked the piston. As for the lbs, its got to be around 500lbs I would think. A great sled for its day. The 550 should be around 80 to 90 HP and should do 90-95 mph. The only neg for that sled is no front bumper, you can't find to many that don't have boken noses. Ouch!

Yah, I have a 92' EXT 550 with currently 6700 miles and it runs fine no problems or anything! But it is kinda hard to find nose cones if yours is broken. It'll probably go 80-95 on ice and 50-60 on good snow. Overall it is the best sled I have owned yet mostly because it has a 11 gallon tank and gets good mpg. Hope this helps thumbsup.png

Thanks, my 13 year old rides my wifes new Ski-Doo MXZ600SDI so she should have no problem with the EXT, I will keep the little one off of it for now. I really did not want to have to have four sleds but I understand what you are saying. I did not think that a 90 HP sled would do 85-90MPH, but am glad that I asked the question now.

Thanks, let me know. If you have any questions with it. Good luck its a fun sled. I just bought a new used motor for mine. I'll have a few extra motor parts if you need anything let me know. I'm in Mechanicville, always happy to help a fellow sledder. HARD CORE rockernana.gif !

I'll can honestly say this.
After my son out grew his Sno Scoot (80cc Yamaha) I pout him on a 92 EXT 550 EFI and I/we didn't regret it one bit.
Great sled, super trail manner and sure footed on the trail.
I went from ski tip to snow flap and replace a bunch of items to make certain it would e a great sled for years to come. It certainly was.
I even added a 1.25" track and it would go thru powder VERY well.
They are heavy but once she learns the sled and how to ride it she would most likely get stuck much less than the first day or so in deep powder.

He went from this.....
89 Sno Scoot

To this....
92 EXT 550 EFI

and now to this.....

03 SnoPro 440 L/C trail converted but is race ready. (oh yeah, I created a monster...... he won several trophies with this sled a couple weekends ago in his first ever SnoX race.)
BTW, he is now 13 years old and rides trails like an adult with better trail manners than most. I AM very proud of him. thumbsup.png
